Having Zune Games Questions or Trouble? Start Here First!

Please take a look at the questions below for answers to many of the questions that have been asked frequently on the forum. If you think there is a question that should be added please let us know. Thanks!

Q: I’ve upgraded to the latest version of the Zune Firmware, and I don’t have games! How do I get them?
A: With your device connected to your computer, click settings, select device, then on the right side, device update. Once you do that you’ll see an option to install games on your Zune device. Click that button and after the update you should have Zune games available.

Q: When I run Hexic or Texas Hold’Em the game doesn’t run, how can I fix this?
A: Try reinstalling the games using the process described above, if this doesn’t fix the issue please let us know.

Q: I can’t seem to get any of the new games like Space Battle, Checkers, and Sudoku even after installing again. How can I fix this?
A: Make sure your running Zune 3.1 on your computer. In the Zune software select settings, then select general. Click the button labeled checked for updates, you should be prompted to upgrade your software then device. After upgrading if you still do not have any games on your Zune follow the instructions above for installing games.

Q: When can I expect more Zune Games?
A: We don’t have anything to announce right now, but keep an eye on http://www.zune.net and http://www.zuneinsider.com for all the latest Zune information.

Q: I want more games, how can I get them? Can I make my own Zune games?
A: With XNA Game Studio, you can develop games for your Zune as well as try out games from other developers. Note that XNA Game Studio is a product focused at developers.  If you’re not comfortable with using development tools, we’d recommend waiting for additional games to become available for the Zune.

Q: Where can I learn more about XNA Game Studio? Where can I download XNA Game Studio?
A: Head over to http://creators.xna.com where you can download the XNA Game Studio 3.0 which works with Zune 3.0 and Zune 3.1 devices. Note that XNA Game Studio 2.0 does not work with the Zune device. You can get started with the XNA Game Studio 3.0 at this page - http://creators.xna.com/en-us/xnags_islive.

Q: I’ve gotten XNA Game Studio Installed, but I can’t get it to see my Zune. What can I do?
A: Make sure that you are running the XNA Game Studio 3.0, because previous versions (such as the CTP) are not compatible with the Zune 3.0 Firmware. If you are using the correct version of both the Zune Firmware and XNA Game Studio, make sure that the Zune Software or something else that might be using the Zune device isn’t running on your computer.

Q: I have a game but it looks like it was created with the CTP or Beta version of XNA Game Studio 3.0?
A: You will need to upgrade the project to the final release of XNA Game Studio. For information on how to accomplish this please see the XNA Game Studio 3.0 ReadMe http://creators.xna.com/en-US/XNAGS3readme, section 1.2.3. Note that .ccgame files cannot be upgraded as you must have access to the source code of the game.

Q: My Zune reboots after I am playing a game I deployed on the Zune! Is this a bug?
A: No, when games are run in “development mode” including those games that were deployed with XNA Game Studio that game will reboot. If you'd like more information please see: http://klucher.com/blog/zune-games-and-rebooting-devices/.

A: While it’s rare if you’re using XNA Game Studio, or running a game, and you have issues with your Zune here are a couple of things you can try. If your Zune isn’t recognized by XNA Game Studio try rebooting your Zune and the computer your connecting your Zune too, this should fix most problems. If you're still having trouble, post here and we’ll do our best to help!

Q: How do I make a game that does “X” or how do I write a game?
