re: I Cant Update my Zune!

I try to update the device through the software, but it keeps saying "the Zune software has encountered a serious error, please reinstall the software Error Code "C1010003 (80040514)"

can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? I tried re-installing as well.

Try re-starting the computer and then try the update again.

yeh i have the same problem sept i tried to reformat and now i have no music or anything

Make sure you have the windows firewall turned on...... come on MS fix the damn install failing if the firewall is off lots of other software companies seem to be able to add rules without the firewall being tunred on why can't you?

I found one solution, go back to 2.5. after reformating my zune i found that it still wouldnt go to 3.0, so i unistalled 3.0 , googled firmware 2.1, (i couldnt find 2.5 directly) and i downloaded 2.5 at this site http://www.10001downloads.com/download/zune-software-18180.html. after installing this i found that my zune couldnt be reconized by windows, so  if urs doesnt either  you have to go to device manager , left click zune and do update driver. following this i went into program files/zune/drivers/zune.inf. use that for the driver and it will reinstall 2.5

i got my zune to go to 3.0, i simply installed zune 3.0 on my bros computer and synced it . walah
im pretty sure it has to do with firewall becuz the firewall asked for permission for a zune port when i clicked install 3.0 on zune device

I'm having this problem now, too.

I updated the Zune software to 3.0, and now it doesn't recognize the Zune (making me unable to upload music / update the firmware)- but Window's sees it everytime I plug in my zune and tries to 'install new hardware'- but then tells me that I have to contact the manufacturer for drivers.. I click "check for updates" & it tells me that I haven't plugged the zune in yet. Any suggestions? Haha.

edit: I should mention that I tried installing the 2.1 software as was mentioned earlier in this thread, but it did not work. Also tried system restoring but it kept coming up with errors..
