My Device Wishlist

Well, I'm sure many of us agree that the Zune is a great audio player.  I'm sure many of us also agree that it could be a lot better.  Here's my little feature wishlist.

  • Clock on the device - Yeah, I know, we've heard it a thousand times.  Still, it's worth mentioning.  Some say they don't need it, some say they don't want it.  (Why?  I don't know.)  You could even have the option of disabling it... but it's a feature I would use a lot.
  • Ability to use the Zune as an external hard drive - Ok, yet another feature we hear a lot about.  Still, it's worth mentioning... the iPod can do it, so why can't we?
  • Support for USB OTG (USB On The Go for those who haven't heard of it) - I don't really see this one very often.  Maybe it's not a very commonly used feature, but it would be nice to be able to simply plug a digital camera into our Zunes and transfer the pictures to its hard drive.  Oh, and no lowering the pictures' resolution.  Come on, we have gigabytes of space here... and the Zune Software wants to compress all our pictures to save space.  At least let us disable this... please?

re: My Device Wishlist

Thanks for the support, and I have one more thing to add to this list:

  • Ability to send Zune Cards/friend requests wirelessly to other Zunes - Who hasn't thought of this at least once?  As an example, let's say your friend (who also has a Zune... unlikely for most people, I know) wants to add you to their friends list.  With the current system, you'd have to use a PC or (if no PC is available) remember to write down their Zune Tag to add it when a PC is available.  It would be much easier if you could simply do this directly from the device.

Heh, yeah, that's the one I really want to see.  Actually, I believe the Gigabeat S (which I think the first generation Zune was based on - remember, Toshiba made that one) had this functionality, and I was always annoyed that the Zune didn't.
