How do I delete Podcasts from the Zune Software on the PC?
Once I listen to a Podcast using my Zune or using the Zune Software on my PC, I don't appear to be able to delete the Podcast from the Zune Software.

  1. I am able to remove the Podcast from my Device
  2. Unfortuntely, when I right click on the Podcast in the Zune Software on my PC, DELETE is grayed-out so I can't choose that option
  3. If I delete the Podcasts from My Music/Zune/Podcast Folder, then the Zune Software re-downloads the Podcast again.
What am I doing wrong?

My Hard Drive is getting too filled with old Podcasts!!!

Thanks for the help.

re: How do I delete Podcasts from the Zune Software on the PC?
The option "Delete" is only grayed out when the episode is "AUTOMATIC", which suggests the number of episodes (of the podcast) that show "AUTOMATIC" in your library is within you set to keep. I'm just guessing, but you may have set to keep all episodes.

If you want to change the default settings of your podcasts, go "Settings">"software">"PODCASTS".
If you want to change the settings of a particular podcast, click "SERIES SETTINGS".

re: How do I delete Podcasts from the Zune Software on the PC?
When I change the PODCAST to only keep 10 episodes, the rest of the Podcasts that were in on my list are still there, but they now all have a button to download them again.
Is there a way to get them off the list completely?

Thank you again for your help.

They stay on the list until you close the program. Usually(*), next time you open it, they won't be there.
* I have a couple of podcasts that have some episodes remaining on their list. Not sure if it is a database glitch or something.

re: How do I delete Podcasts from the Zune Software on the PC?

Thank you again for the advice & support.  You were right about both issues.

One more question about Podcasts: If you know the answer.

- In a couple of my Podcasts Subcriptions there are multiple Podcasts that share the same name & the Zune software will often not download 2 or 3 Podcasts with the same series name to the Zune

For Example:
  • I signed up for a daily Podcast subscription
  • On the 24th was an episode titled "The Human Condition"
  • On the 25th & 26th the episodes were continuations of that Series, so they were also titled "The Human Condition"
(It would have been helpful if someone had titled them "Part 2" & "Part 3"; but they didn't)
  • The Zune will not download the episode from the 25th until I remove the episode from the 24th; same with the 26th.
  • However, I want all 3 episodes on my Zune at once, so I can listen to them one-after-another

Any sugesstions how to get Podcasts to stay on the Zune even if they have the same episode name & just different release dates?

Thanks agian,
Tim

re: How do I delete Podcasts from the Zune Software on the PC?
The Zune software may do that though I don't think I've seen two (or more) episodes have the same titles, ... except one occasion, sort of:

I'm a subscriber of "Hubblecast HD". When they changed the file names from (episode title).mp4 to (episode title).m4v(*), the Zune software downloaded all of the m4v files even though I had the mp4 files.
* .mp4 and .m4v are technically the same, but the file sizes were different; so they must have encoded the episodes again.

Anyway, you could rename the file names/titles outside of the Zune software and add them back to your collection to sync them all together. However, it may mess up your collection a little, especially if they are those the Zune software is set to keep (within 10 episodes).

You could also ask the provider to name the titles as you suggested (part 1, part 2, ...).
