A little confused, need help
Just bought an 80gig Zune, the reason i bought the 80 gig is because i have been storing music on my laptop for years and it only has a 30 gig harddrive,  I'm just out of room.  So the whole point of the zune (for me) is to free up room on my laptop harddrive.  I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong or overlooking some settings in the zune software.  So today i spent a couple hours today in the zune software dragging and dropping all of the artists in my collection to the zune device.  Seemed to go OK, unplugged the zune from my computer, turned it on to make sure all of my music was on the device, it was.   So at this point I felt I was OK to start deleting all the music off of my laptop harddrive.  Did that, then plugged my device back into the computer.  After it went through the sync process briefly,  not only was all my music not on my laptop (which was expected), but it wasn't on my Zune device either.  What the heck, please tell me I'm just doing something wrong.  It just doesn't make sense to me that for my music to be on my zune it would also have to be on my computer,  that defeats the whole purpose of me buying this thing.   DADECLINE81@yahoo.com

The Zune is not a portable hard drive. It would either have to remain on your computer or you would have to sync your Zune as a guest of your computer and not as the main computer. To do that, go to (settings-->device-->sync options) and click (forget this device). Then when you reconnect your Zune say that you 'always want to connect as a guest'. The only thing to that is that you'll have to manually add/delete from your Zune because auto syncing won't turn on.

by signing in as guest does this mean I can now add files to my zune, delete them from my laptop and and have them remain on my zune?

Yes, you can delete stuff and it'll remain on your Zune. By signing in as a guest you have to manually add-delete from the device. Nothing will be automatic.
