And...finally! The functional spec

First off: My sincere apologies for the delay with this.

Want to hear why? Here goes.

1) the release of 2.5 took a lot more time than I thought it would (from me personally).

2) Other priorities I had to complete at the same time - working on the next release!

3) A trip to China to meet with our development team there sucked up some of my time.

4) I had to figure out how to publish the documents - frankly, the Zune site today didn't give me any good options (it's too long for a blog post, and it has pictures!)

So, you want to see it?

Please leave your comments here.

Remember that my team gets to comment and shape this thing too; what I describe is my synthesis of the ideas we developed earlier this year, and it's now time to refine them. Refining them, though, means getting realistic about what we can build - so it's possible not everything I spec'ed will actually become reality.

But hey, comment away...and again, I'm sorry this has taken longer than I expected.

Wow, You've given us a lot of materiel to work with.

Anyways, here is my idea for the "landing page" & and a mock up quiz
I'll update this post as I make more,

#1 Landing Page (update 1.9)

Here is an alternate version (beta) with a more Zuneish Banner
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/rltronic/ZunequizLandingaltra-1.jpg

It's far from final or perfect, but it gets the idea across.

#2 Quiz Page (v1.7)

#3 Quiz Chooser (1.3)

check out the post I started at Zune Scene, they are helping me come up with great ideas!!

Yeah, it's a ton of information. And I was way more nervous posting it out there than I've ever been in a spec review at Microsoft! :-)

I'd love to hear people's feedback; this is the time when we refine the spec through other people's input.

Don't be nervous,
The more Zune\MS reaches out to the community , the more you successful you will be!

So far the spec looks great,
The only thing I can think of right away , is a 1-2 question mini quiz that would be placed on users Social profile page.

I'll agree with Volvoshine. Don't be nervous. This is the best kind of thing you guys can do; getting the community involved is what this is about. The more you guys let us help and allow us to feel apart of this great project, the more the fruits of your hard work will flourish.

Do you have any ideas thus far in terms of an interface? I am interested in putting some thought into this, and if you have anything in mind, I can throw something together for a visual.

Jessica this is so cool....A lot of information but the jist is SUPER.

How about extending the mini quiz on a Social profile page...if someone wants to be your "Friend" they have to correctly answer your music questions on your Social page?? Of course this could be an option to add to your Friend requests...kinda like a club password situation.

Right now just clicking "Accept" is kinda boring....

Great work Jessica!!

ps; Going to China next month...I'll have a 1,000 year old egg in your honor

You rock Jessica!

But Please, please, please if you want to design a better game that's fun and addicting which in turn improves music
search quality using human brainpower for free (which is what this is really about) then watch the following video in
its entirety...

Designing atop Luis' principles of Asymmetric/Symmtretric games is the way to go in my opinion.

P.S. I can't wait til I make my next visit to the U.S. so that I can buy a Zune 80 (red).  I'm an American living in Brazil (oh the
horror of electronics down here).

This looks good.  At first, I was a bit 'meh' about the notion of a quiz, but after looking at the specs, I'm excited.  Is this going to happen?  Will there, eventually, be a Zune device version?

good job!
