Zune as a news (i.e. real news) reader

On my way to work this morning I was, as usual, sat on the train listening to podcasts that got synced to my Zune overnight. I looked around me and noticed that everyone else was either listening to their ipods or (mostly) reading a newspaper. That's when I had a brainwave.

Wouldn't it be cool if I picked up my Zune every morning and it had all the latest local and international news stories synced to my Zune ready for me to read them on the way in. Dead-tree-based "newspapers" are on their way out - they will be replaced with (free) digital news reader devices and my startling realisation this morning was that I already had one. The only thing required to fill the gap now is software.

Hence, my request is, please turn Zune into a mobile digital "newspaper".

(I strongly suspect that Live Mesh will help to fill the gap here.)

Some extra features that would be nice:

  • Software on my Zune that turns the written word into the spoken word. In other words, have the news read to me rather than me having to read it.
  • Have the news items populate from http://news.live.com

Thoughts?

I've suggested this too. It'd be very easy to use the functionality they have in place for the MSN Direct Watch service.

Blogged about it too. http://jamiethomson.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!550F681DAD532637!4712.entry

Now I've thought about it some more this seems like a Mesh thing rather than a Zune thing.
