Bring Back 5 Star System
Pretty much everything I'm seeing here with the firmware update looks snazzy!  The only thing I'm distinctly disliking at this point is the new ratings system with hearts, broken hearts, or nothing at all.  Not only is this far too limiting, but it totally screws up my old rating system.  I also noticed (but have not yet read) a post about no more auto playlists.  It seems I can still access my old ones, so I'm fine with that, but those should really stay in the system.

Yes! Microsoft bring back 5-star rating system, and rework the software (and actually test it this time) !

I like it. That gives you 3 ratings, dislike, neutral, love it. Way simpler and faster. Why do you need 5 different ranges of liking or disliking. Also the different stars mean different things to different people, this is more universal for integration with the social.

re: Bring Back 5 Star System
I use the five star system to create a series of auto playlists which I use to give priority to songs I like more (I have a 2+, 3+, 4+, and 5 star list, and if they're all added to Now Playing at the same time, 5 star songs play more than four star songs, which play more than three star songs, etc).  The new system really only gives someone like me one choice - Like it.  For one, I would never check a song as 'Dislike' because I can't possibly think of a reason to have a song I don't like in my library at all.  For another, Neutral, or unrated, doesn't properly represent how I feel about my music either.  I 'like' all the music I have, I 'really like' some of it, and a very select few I 'love'.  I don't really see much point in having music I'm 'neutral' about in my library either.

And as wonderful an idea as The Social is, I don't really give a damn if other people don't understand my rating criteria if making them understand limits how I listen to my music.

I need 5 different ratings because I have many variations of how much I like songs. I use 1 as neutral, and the other four as different amounts of like. And the heart system only has two ratings, you can't use unrated as neutral because that leaves you with no way to distinguish between songs you haven't rated and songs that you rated as neutral. As for integration with the social, what do I care what other people think of songs or whether they can understand the system I use to rate songs?

You hit the nail on the head. It took me a while to get used to the zune software, but not I like it. The TWO biggest problems I have with it is that they took ou the 5 star rating and took away the auto playlists. I really can't see any reason for removing the ability to create auto playlists...

I agree. leave it as it is in Zune 2.

Also...they've already said openly that they're marketing research showed overwhelmingly that people didn't want 5-star ratings.  So, this won't be returning.
