re: Windows 7 and Zune
Is there anywhere I can talk to an actual person from zune about this?  I sent an email to microsoft and they immediately dumped me off on the zune supoort, which is just a knowledge base, and seeing how this problem is brand new, that doesn't help me.  And when I call zune tech support i just get an annoying robot that strings me along.

Alright my problem is fixed, it was actually pretty simple.  In device manager right click your zune and uninstall, make sure you check the box to uninstall drivers too.  Then plug it back in and install them manually from the device.

re: Windows 7 and Zune
I also had the same problem as stated above but I was not able to fix the problem using that method.  Not only was I receiving error code 31 for the Zune driver but also for the WPD filesystem volume driver (the following may work for those who received error code 10 as well).   After many hours of searching through Windows Vista forums I found a solution that can be used in Windows 7.

1.Open command prompt

2.Type this
Net localgroup Administrators Service /add

3. Press enter

4.Close command prompt once it says that the task was completed successfully (if it fails you may have typed it in wrong)

5. Reboot your computer

6. Reconnect your Zune

Although this worked for me it may not for you.  Browse through these forums if this does not work.

re: Windows 7 and Zune

Hello,

I performed a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit (via Technet subscription) a couple of days ago on a desktop which was running Vista Ultimate 64. Prior to the upgrade Zune 80 device (Firmware ver 3.2) and software (I believe it was ver 4.0) worked w/o problems in Vista. But after installing the Zune software onto Win7 and setting up the device , the Zune 80 will not sync music. I was able to sync some podcasts but it just won't do music. When syncing music files the status under the Zune icon first reads 3% then immediately jumps to 97% and that's it. The device summary displays "Not Added" and 'files not found' in the pull down listing. There are no error codes that display as far as I'm aware.

All my media files are kept on an external hard drive connected via USB2.0. One thing I did notice after Win7 was installed was the external drive displays the folders/files as "Read Only". I am still able to add and delete files from the folders however. I have changed permissions but it seems to have no effect on the drive folders or the syncing (sinking? LOL!) issue.

I have tried reinstalling the Zune software on numerous occassions, forgetting/resetting the Zune 80, ensuring all Win7 chipset, SATA, etc. drivers are installed from my mobo vendors (Asus) website. Since I am a Canadian Zune user I am presently downloading the Zune software from the '.ca' site as it is a considerably smaller file size (55MB) than the version posted on Microsoft's site which is 460+ MB. I am hoping this may make a difference.

I am pulling my hair out trying to resolve this and soon I will be bald. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I continue reading here and the interwebs.

TIA.

Woot!

Syncing is working again! Turns out there was an error code associated with each music file it could not find: C00D1193. A bit of googling brought me to an MS KB page where I downloaded the collectionreset tool. Worked like a charm. My 919 album library is now synchable (is that a word?) again!

re: Windows 7 and Zune
The Zune HD seems to be more sensitive than most devices to the USB port characteristics.  I was having all kinds of problems getting a Zune HD to sync successfully with a Windows 7 64-bit computer.  Getting error code C101007 (player has been disconnected), and lots of different event log errors and warnings for the zune application (event log eventID 15302 and 15200 for the ZuneDriver application).  Syncs (of one song) would start, but never complete.  All kinds of werid and funky errors.  I tried several different USB ports, but they were all ports that were driven by headers on the motherboard.  It was not until I tried a USB port that was directly on the motherboard back-panel riser (the standard riser where the standard keyboard, ethernet, etc ports are) that the Zune started syncing correctly.  I have never had a problem with other devices using any of the USB ports on this quality gigabyte motherboard, but the Zune HD was not happy unless it was connected to one of the standard back-panel riser USB ports.
