BINGO, thats what you bought, why would it be more??  when i buy a car should i expect upgrades for free??

Funny u should make that comparison cause i don't think it cost anything when the last upgrade provided games and a clock to the device.

Correct, they did add new features...but just because they did it before doesn't mean you should always expect that.

I remember one time a waitress surprised me by bringing out a desert for my wife and myself while we were debating on if we should get it or not...(friendly debate not arguing)

She came out with one and didn't add it to the check.

That doesn't mean I expect that every time I go to that restaurant ;)

Next time you choose a restaurant to eat at, that may be a consideration, and might
even be the piece of data that tips the scales in their favor.

MS should know by now that there are more than a few people who would really
like to have an EQ on their Zunes, and that providing it for the older models would
be a good move in terms of customer service.

Especially if it were a downloadable upgrade to the firmware so that people
who don't want it can choose not to add it.

It would be nice to get an EQ in the zune120's then MS would at least have ONE high capacity model with an EQ. It's looking like even if the zuneHD has an EQ it's going to have such small storage space it might not be very useful.

No probs on the recall of the car but my point is simple. There is an expectation when buying a product- especially on the higher end. When buying a car, it is expected that a stereo would be included with the car and thus, the expectation in buying a media player of this caliber (from most of us) is an EQ.

All i want to know is if this can be modified or not, and if it can, then just do it already.

Not having an equalizer is insane and the load of s--t that microsoft is selling for not including one is crazy.  My old Sansadisk has an equalizer and the battery life is at least four times longer than this Zune.  I am highly disappointed and would have never bought the thing if I had realized this.  I am currently looking to by an IPOD or 16 gig Sansadisk and will sell the Zune as soon as I can afford something else. I have had portable muisc devices for 27 years and I can tell you that the Zune does not download a great sound every time - even straight off the original music source. Often the vocals sound tinny and not having the ability to adjust this drives me insane. Microsoft made a huge mistake - if your life revolves around music you need an equalizer.  Some users are content just to have music - some of us still want a quality sound. What a horid mistake for a company that is trying to rival the IPOD. I will think twice and do way more research before I ever consider another Micorsoft media player.

Also look at the Sony Walkman MP3 players.

They appear to be pretty good, judging by reviews I've read

They're not on par soundwise with the Zune at all.  I have a Sony Walkman mp3 and the EQ is weak as is the sound.  Not a bad inexpensive device.  All the Sony Walkman MP3 is, is a plug and play device with a proprietary interface.

With the tegra cpu I'd be interested to see if they could implemnt high quality DSP effects along with a parametirc EQ, shuld be a piece of cake for that processor. Since the ZuneHD will do multi track audio there may also be a need for some other types of channel adjustments for multi track movie soundtracks. Heck the thing could probably do 24 bit 192KHZ audio as well if it wasn't hand capped with 32 GB of flash  memory

PLEASE PUT AN EQUALIZER IN

the only feature I miss from my iPod is the sound quality. Zunes need an equalizer.
