re: how to speed up software tips
This is pretty weird. This software runs so smooth for me and I only spent $500 on my PC about 6 months ago. The when the software is running my total cpu usage is 7%. I think people need to stop buying computers from Best buy or Futureshop and learn how to build one, it's not hard i built mine when I was 14. If your having problems now then look in the task manager and see whats running. If their is things that you don't need to run then exit them and if its something you have to run but it kills your system then try and find a lighter alternative. Defrag your hard drive and clean your registry. If you know how to take care of your PC then it will always run like you bought it.

re: how to speed up software tips

the zune software itself isn't that huge once it's up and running. it does appear to scan all monitored folders while it's loading. if you have a huge database of music this can mean longer loading times. both of my PCs are 4 years old and run single core 2.5GHz and i'm doing "alright".

try looking at getting rid of processes that are running in the background. i try to only have system essential processes and anti virus running all the time. many programs come with updaters and tray apps that are relatively useless and can slow down your system if they are running all the time.

A few things that seemed to have helped the start up time on mine is disabling Automatic sign-in. Click your sign in name in the upper right corner and uncheck "automatically sign me in." Also I disabled automatically update metadata and album art. I prefer to do it myself anyhow.

The Zune is a good machine, so is the iPod, so is a toaster, what's your point? Zune 120.

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} I'm not sure if I'm having a separate problem that's slowing down the zune software or not. As soon as I start the Zune software my cpu immediately goes up to 100%. And the fan ROARS at max speed. I can play songs without too many problems in the artist view but none of the other views (songs, playlists) work, usually it takes about 5 minutes to respond to a click. However if I log out out of windows and into my wife's user account, the zune software seems to be completely fine even though our music is in the same directory. Her cpu usages spikes occasionally at 66% but usually sits around 40 or 50 and the fan does pick up some but nothing like when signed into my user account.  We've had our zunes for a while now and this just started a few months ago. I've done virus scan's, trojan scan's, registry scan's, defragmented, and even upgraded our memory from 2 to 4g's. Anyone have any ideas.

Wow, thanks for everyones help on this.  My computer runs terribly slow when Zune is running also.  I have pretty decent specs as the computer is only a year old.  I hope that Zune is able to trim the fat with future updates because this has been the pitts!

re: how to speed up software tips
okay, so my 4 month old 8gb zune is completely unresponsive and wont turn on so i sent in an online repair request since i couldnt get in contact with a real person. they sent me an email to send it in and that my message is recieved BUT they never gave me an address of where to send it to. im extremely frustrated and i know this is a tips and tricks forum but im hoping someone could provide me with a mailing address or a number where i can talk to an actual person, not an automated machine. Thanks
