re: Friends and the software
My friend and I are having this issue. I can see on the zune social webpage but not in the software. Sorry but I don't use IE.. I use firefox.. I just got my zune HD the other day and it's a little irritating when the software doesn't function properly which in turn doesn't function with the hardware.. disappointing..

re: Friends and the software
So, I've tried everything suggested so far, to get my new friends to show up on the software, including uninstalling and re-installing the software to no avail.
I know You guys mentioned that this would have to be fixed in a software update, and thats fine.
Just wondering if theres any idea of when that might happen? Its just irritating, to want to be able to be involved in the "Social" and not be able to. This sucks, I know this will be fixed eventually but I cant help but vent a bit about it. Love my Zune HD and my 30 and 80gig, Waiting for more games and apps, Loving the new firmware update by the way great functionality improvements.
This is just wearing thin a bit, Ya know?

re: Friends and the software
I totally get your frustration. We haven't announced when a new software release would happen, though, so I don't have any information I can share at this time.

re: Friends and the software
Thanks Jessica, all of you guys are doing a great job, your genuine dedication and passion for your work is evident in both the podcasts and the replys to the forum posts by end users like myself. We rant, complain and just plain have to vent sometimes but you guys always take it in stride.
We dont extend our appreciation enough i think sometimes for all the work you guys do, so im going to try and say thank you alot more, and know that we really do trully appreciate everything.
On that note, I dont know what happened but when i started up my software late yesterday my friends list was updated, sooooo, hey what can ya say, hardware and software are like the twilight zone sometimes, who knows why it does what it does?:) Oh well.

P.S.
Please extend my thanks to everyone on the team:)

re: Friends and the software

There's something preventing the list from getting updated in the software...I just asked that team if they know what it is yet, but it's interesting that seemingly randomly the friends list updates. The way this works in particular is that my team creates the API (basically, the list) of friends that the software needs to show; the software team needs to get that list and display it properly. There's a disconnect here we need to figure out.

Anyway, yeah, we're still on it.

re: Friends and the software
I'm another one with the problem. I installed the Zune 4.0 desktop software on two desktops about a month ago when I got a Zune HD (10/6).  At that time I had 3 friends and both showed on the desktop software.  Now I have 7 friends on Zune.net in my web profile, but still only the original 3 show up in both installations of the desktop software as well as my Zune HD's social section. So count me in on having the problem.  Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

re: Friends and the software

Hi,

I have the exact same problem that my friends don't appear on my software but they do online. However what's really interesting is that if I log on to a different Windows account and start up the software the new friends appear. Let's be a little more specific. I have the software since summer 2008 and that's when i added three friends. Now I got all the updates since the summer 2008. Then when you released the 4.0 software I updated and shortly after that i have added you and Matt (I listen to the Zune Insider since I can't even remember). After a week I still didn't have you in friends on the software. However what works sometimes is to sign with a different Windows account. On my computer I have an Windows account in which I have never signed in to the social in the Zune software. So I did and magically you and Matt appeared as my friends along with the three original ones and so it is online. Nevertheless I have set up an account for my friend (who really diggs the software btw once I showed him) and from his account I sent myself a friend request through the Zune.net site. On my home Windows account in Zune software I did get the request and accepted it however now 4 days from that I don't have him in friends in the Zune software. Online no problem, I do have him in friends. So I tried switching the Windows account as I already did and I only had the three original friends and you and Matt.

Hope I helped

re: Friends and the software

We know what's going on now.

Here's how you can fix it for yourself - we will need to fix it permanently in a future version of the software, though.

Open the Zune software - sign in

Do NOT go to any social pages!

Leave the Zune software running for four hours

Close the software, then re-open and sign in again - we believe your friends will all be there.

Let me know if this doesn't work. the four hour part is really important - if you try in less than four hours, it won't work.

re: Friends and the software

Hi,

So I tried the whole four hour thing and left the Zune software running from about 5:15pm to about 9:35pm without using it at all but my new friends are not in there :( Maybe I have done something incorrectly, I will try to redo the whole process however I believe that I did it correctly this time. It's always good to double check so I'll tell how I end up.

Cheers

re: Friends and the software

I left the software running overnight, closed it, and reopened - no luck.

re: Friends and the software
Tried exactly what you said, left the software on for about 6 hours, signed in(automatically), didn't go to social page, closed and re-opened the software.  Still no luck.
