The Bodyguard soundtrack is really good especially the international version.  The soundtrack has a great mixture of songs and I prefer it to the American version.

Purple Rain. I wish Warner would come out with a deluxe complete soundtrack for the movie tho.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not

My vote for best Movie Soundtrack would have to be the Heavy Metal soundtrack. Sammy Hagar, Devo, Cheap Trick, B.O.C., Black Sabbath, Stevie Nicks, Donald Fagen just to name a few. I've had it on vinyl, cassette and CD. Great movie, great soundtrack.

I have two.... either:

Velvet Goldmine soundtrack or The Wedding Singer

You can't get rid of the IDIOTS... you just need to figure them into the equation, Nik

re: Best movie soundtrack ever ? what would you say
If talking about movies with actual real life songs in them, I'd say "Garden state" and "Picture this... snowboard edition".

But I wrote an extensive article about my favorite movie composers. Those feature:

1. Hans Zimmer - "Lion King", "Pirates of the Caribbean" and probably my favorite - "The Gladiator".
2. Howard Shore - "Silence of the lambs" and "The Lord of the Rings"
3. Edward Shearmur - "K-Pax" - my favorite movie ever, in large part thanks to the soundtrack. I listen to it when I need to chill.
4. James Horner - "Titanic", "Braveheart"
5. Tom Newman - "American Beauty"
6. John Williams - "Star Wars"

You can find my little article here. It's in lithuanian, but there is a lot of preview music.

re: Best movie soundtrack ever ? what would you say

The best movie soundtrack is split between three very well done films and soundtracks.

  • Mulan Rouge - Various (mostly sang my Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman)
  • Nightmare before Christmas - Danny Elfman
  • Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - Danny Elfman

the last two are just a coincidentally made my Danny Elfman. The Willy Wonka soundtrack is really fun to listen to.  You can totally get into the movie if you know the soundtrack (that's what made the first Chocolate bearable the soundtrack).

Tarantino does have some very well done soundtracks, but they are all about the same.

Good, but very much the same, buy one you got them all.

I wouldn't say best ever, but one of my personal favorites would be Howl's Moving Castle. That style of music will make me melt on a cold day and refresh me on a hot one (that sounded better in my head, lol).

Plant an acorn in the earth, and wait for it to sprout wings. Fly into cerulean blue.

My personal favorites have to be the Cowboy Bebop soundtracks.  So much good stuff on them. Moviewise, I'd go with the Blackhawk Down soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.
