re: FLAC support

Maybe it's a matter of the chipset not supporting it and not being upgradable?  I don't know.

Why convert to MP3 when you have WMA Pro 24bit which seems to sound better?  If it's a matter of working in Linux, that makes sense.  I've converted my Lossless to WMA Pro and it sound great probably thanks to the chipset in the Zune....

My Zune 30 is not only still having a good run, but it's now grown up into a Zune 60 running for twice as long of a run..

Agreed, FLAC support would be nice.  I'm done with proprietary formats, having switched from an iPod to a Zune.  I'm still finding holes in my collection that were protected AAC files, so no WMA lossless for me.

re: FLAC support
Another supporter of the FLAC integration right here!   This would blow my mind.

I have no worries about as for the power consumption because my Zune moves from home dock station to car charger and I dont imagine it being much less efficient if any than the alternative WMA lossless.  As of right now I have developed a batch file to convert all my FLAC files to both MP3 and WMA lossless and that cuts it.. but its taking up a lot of space on my HDs.

props to the Zune team!

re: FLAC support

I never owned a ipod but I have tried to install itunes and it just was too much of a pain just to try and get it installed with so many error codes so I choose not to try that again. but I have used foobar and it has support for flac and it sounds nice. I am not a coder or know too much about codec, is it hard to just write a codec to this awsome Zune software so it can support flac?

Agreed. I'd very much appreciate some .FLAC support on the Zune.

One thing I don't get is how you guys are complaining that .wma lossless is a closed format... true, it's a microsoft codec, but it has no DRM and is 100% available for conversion. It may not be the most convenient option for those of us who like to listen to lossless audio, but it isn't a DRM-riddled format; it's just MSFT-owned.  I'd prefer .FLAC, personally.

.FLAC support pease!

WMA lossless files are not DRM'd or protected as those AAC itunes files are/were so you won't have the same issue.

Ditto. I need some FLAC in my life, not HD.
