1 ) Why would people want to carry around two devices, their phone and mp3 player, when there are devices that can play music, surf the web, and call family and friends.
2 ) There obviously is no security feature coming for the Zune any time soon, so I would have been risking another loss.

1 ) Contrary to popular belief, there are people out there who do not have a cell phone (myself included). We just don't want one.
2 ) You really have no idea on that one. They could be right on the verge of something, again, we just don't know.

Agreed. Unfortunately, those extra features you named cost extra. Unless it's just on your cell phone plan. And the minimum of those that I've seen are about... over one hundred dollars a month.

1 ) I understand people not having cell phones, that is their choice, but the phone that plays mp3's is a good alternative for those that do.

2 ) I have been messaged by a few of the Zune staff and moderators, who have said that they'll suggest the feature for implementation. I started this thread more than 6 months ago, and I am sure that there were ideas for it long before mine. If they wanted to prevent people from getting their Zune stolen, they've had plenty of time to do so, but for a business that would make no sense. Why would a company, in the business of selling their product, want to prevent their customers from losing their original purchase which would cause them to go and purchase a replacement. If everyone that could afford a Zune, or had a desire to get one got one, what better way to sell more than to allow the theft of the product, forcing those that want and can afford a Zune to buy another.

I don't see where people think that once someone steals something from someone it becomes their property. I have read many times that if my Zune was stolen, and Microsoft had gotten the information, that many people on here don't think I would have "the right to have that information." I am pretty sure that if someone were to break into your house and be sleeping on your couch when you woke up in the morning, that you would have the right to go downstairs and ask them who the heck they were and what they were doing in your house. Just because they were able to get into your house and get on your couch and use it does not give them any privacy rights, to me saying that when someone hooks up my stolen Zune to their internet connection and Microsoft gets the information as to where my Zune is but they won't give it to me because of the theifs right of privacy, is like witnessing a crime and not doing anything about it because it's murders private business. I just should turn away while the crime is happening so that I don't invade the criminals privacy. I thought when I purchased a Zune, that the unit I purchased was my property. If someone were to steal my cell phone, make a phone call on my phone, how would I not have the right to see what my phone was used for, or the number it called. It is insane to me that all these people want to give criminals all these rights, when in fact, are privacy rights taken when you commit a crime? From what I have seen of jails, criminals don't get a curtain for their bathroom, so they don't even have privacy rights while urinating.

Hmmm, I thought of something. You should be able to have the choice of password-protecting the software. Where you have to enter the password to sync. Which means, we should have to press a button to sync before the Zune actually starts syncing.

Hey now, read the third or so post in this thread, that idea was already suggested by myself. The Zune moderator said she would suggest it as well, that was months ago. As far as I can tell there is not going to be any security features added in the near future.

Yes, yes. I saw. My idea is a bit different, though. And of course it would take months to do. They have to make sure that everything's working and everything. The last thing I want is for my Zune to be completely messed up over an update. It's happened before, I want to avoid it from happening again. They need to make sure it works.

Words of wisdom! I'm very honest when it comes to someone else's property, because I don't want it happening to me, for one.

Are you aware of what you are wanting? You are wanting something that is virtually impossible. The only person who can keep your Zune from being stolen is you, and in some instances even you can't prevent the theft. Here you are wanting Microsoft to keep your Zune from being stolen? Am I missing something? I understand the whole "make the Zune worthless once it's stolen" idea, but it would seem that you are proposing something entirely different. Please inform me of any brilliant ideas that you have on this situation.

re: Some kind of Lost or Stolen tracking system PLEASE??
He is not asking Microsoft to prevent his Zune from getting stolen.  He is suggesting that they have some way of tracking down the stolen product.  It is technically feasible to do this.  I just had my house broken into and I lost an XBox360, 2 controllers, 10 games, a Zune and an iPod nano.  So if I would be VERY INTERESTED if I could track down these items.  I would only think that taking away the privacy rights on stolen merchandise can only do more good than evil.  I agree with the post stating that it is in Microsoft's (and even Apple's) best interest to NOT HELP finding the stolen merchandise and to continue to profit from future victim purchases.  Hell, the person who stole my stuff could be working for Microsoft, for all I know! haha But I still can't figure out why they took my nano...

My husband told me that pawn shops have to make sure the merchandise is not stolen before they can actually resell the item.  Mine got stolen last night.  I am pretty P*** about it.  Wait till I find the coward they are going to wish they had never taken it.

Agreed I too had my 30Gig stolen, and I totally agree it needs to be a covert trace.  The technology is there look at lo-jack for laptops, something like that would be awesome.  The only benefit that I have in this situation is knowing how much of an idiot the thief was; the Zune was in my car at night and the idiot stole it and my FM transmitter, however he failed to take the transmitters power supply.  At first I thought that he was just rushed but then realized he couldn't have been that rushed he went through everything else in my truck.  No really Zune needs to get on this, it is very disheartening thinking about some jerk out there listening to my device.

Ya i'm down with that idea. Especially since Zune's are so personal now. Not only did they just steal my music collection, they also got my pictures and videos. Any sort of system would be nice, seeing as how theft is so common.
