re: For the R&B -- Soul -- Old School Lovers... : )

We've thrown down a lot of names, but all of us know that the one thing R&B/Soul/Old School always does is it touches each of us in a way that is not comparable to other music. Is there an old school song that is meaningful to you? I know that this changes for each of us depending on our situations, but what is that song for now?

Mine, for now, is "A Change Gonna Come" performed by Sam Cooke. Not only is Sam Cooke great himself, the performance and the lyrics just lift my spirits.

I gotta say Bill Withers is one of the best. Ain't No Sunshine is one of those you never get sick of. Also anything from Otis Redding.

I was listening to some CDs I had packed away and pulled out Ashford and Simpson and Big Mama Thornton. I've had "You're All I Need" and "They Call Me Big Mama" stuck in my head all day.

Speaking of Ashford and Simpson, I was listening to my music in my car and I heard "Is it still good to ya" and almost forgot where I was. That song is one of my favorite slow jams of all time.

How about Frankie Beverly and Mays (Running Away, Back in Stride) or Gladys Knight and the Pips (Heard it Through the Grapevine) or Billie Holiday (Strange Fruit)?
