For the record, I am Canadian, have a Canadian Zune account and a Computer whose default region is Canada, hence changing the region to the US and getting a Zune account tied to the US region. This is what worked for me, once I did this the Zune HD firmware update appeared immediately. 

Or it was just coincidence.

My 32GB Zune received the update with no problem. Everything seems to be more responsive. And the keyboard in landscape is full width now!!!

***CHANGES***
there have been a couple of changes i noticed so far

-Faster browser
-landscape keyboard

-New keyobard option in the settings section
-New toggle between seek and presets under radio section 
-Under the internet section in settings you can now toggle to default mobile or desktop webpage layout. 
-Artists BIOs are updated- embedded links to other artists in text

Are the screensaver settings under display settings new?


The only new feature under the display tab is in the TV out section
there are now options for 
- HDMI auto (which is auto detect I'm assuming)
-HDMI 480p

everything else is the same i think (i dont go into that menu that often)
the option for screen save are now
-never
-always
-powered 
i dont know what it was before

Those of you having problems, you don't necessarily have a problem with your region and it has nothing to do with 32gb v. 16gb. Simply do a system restore on the device.

1. Press POWER/MEDIA (side) butons together for 15 seconds. wait for the full time or until you see the screen that tells you you will need to connect to use the device THIS WILL NOT DELETE YOUR CONTENT.

2. Start the Zune desktop software and reconnect your Zune. The update should start right away.

No matter where you go, there you are...
