How many of you have actually initialized the disc properly?

Which would be ... restarting and then holding Back Middle and Play?

Same issue here with an 80. It will not charge any longer or reset.

That would be the process for 4,8,16,80,120 devices. :)

re: Zune 80 - Software update failed, now bricked.
I did it correctly the first time myself, and then I followed the instructions of the Customer Service individual on the other side of the phone - and both times, my Zune did the same thing that I posted in my long post.

The problem doesn't lie with me or anybody else here whose Zune's have been damaged. It lies with the update that Microsoft put out. Now, hopefully they'll be willing to rectify that problem.

Can you show me where I stated you or any user was at fault? Can you show me definitive proof that the issue lies with the code in the update itself?

If not then your entire post there was accusatory and falsely inflammatory.

Yeah, I have tried this several times.  Also from a previously dead battery.

=(

re: Zune 80 - Software update failed, now bricked.

I did.  I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and the latest Zune program.  Current player software version is Player Recovery Mode, I am trying to install update version 3.20 (35). I cleared the Zune by hitting both buttons and the middle pad.  I have done this several times, and I keep getting error code C000D124F.  Is there anything else I should be doing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

That's weird. I just searched for the error code you posted. C000D124F and on Google your post is the only post on the entire Internet that shows that Error Code.

Microsoft doesn't even have an entry for it. Are you sure that's the right code?

re: Zune 80 - Software update failed, now bricked.
I posted about this as soon as the new software rolled out.  My Zune 80 worked every day I owned it until the second I installed the new software.  I finally got it to sort of work...as in it will download a few songs when it chooses to.  And I even got it to download my a podcast for a while until today when it stopped completely again.  Yes, I've tried everything everybody else has. Several times.  And then a few times more.

Today, I did a reset after it failed to download a new playlist today, and instead of just rebooting, it told me I needed to install the newest software.  I've been trying to install it all day.  I'm at step 2 at 57% progress, and have been for an hour.  Microsoft totally screwed over its existing users with the new software.  I've never seen a company abandon it's customers like that before on such a large scale.

I have a little old-school mp3 player that still works after 6 years.  And it was relatively cheap.  But when you spend as much money on an mp3 player as you could a blu ray player, or even a netbook, you expect it to perform well, and do so for several years.

Microsoft, own your mistake and fix it.  It's not a coincidence.  Too many people are having the exact same problem.

Sending the Zune off for repair and paying big bucks for it, is NOT a solution to this problem.  Has anyone read anything elsewhere that rumors to correct this widespread issue?

Moreover, has anyone heard about a new software release coming anytime soon?
