re: Song / Album plays not being uploaded? Read this for some clarity

Add me to the frustrated.  After reading this thread I decided to take a look at my collection.  Ugh.  A great bit of it is music I converted from LPs (mostly 70s and 80s) and at least half won't link.  Sometimes when I do the "Find album info" deal I'll get a match, but more often than not I won't because the info on allmusic.com contains later released CD info (instead of LPs) which usually don't match exactly.

Do you know if this has any chance of being fixed (perhaps some way of forcing info into the database for album versions that do not already exist) or is it just a fact of life that if you want to meaningfully join the social that you must play "linkable" songs?

If you want your plays to count towards Social statistics (becoming Top Listener, having your plays count towards the real artist, etc.) and not just personal ones (which are pretty much confined to your own page), then yeah, it's pretty essential.

It's really up to you.  I think of the Social as a much stricter, more organized version of Last.fm.  (Last.fm is better for tracking plays of everything and anything, but it's organization is TERRIBLE because it accepts any and all metadata.  You have people with bad metadata messing up the charts, and that really detracts from the experience.  At least the Social is orderly.  Zune Social is like a VIP club - harder to get into, but a blast once you're in and everything is going smoothly. =)

re: Song / Album plays not being uploaded? Read this for some clarity

Corey,

I think the issues you are discussion here is linked to the issues some of us are seeing when badges go missing.  I have four badges now that can't be found and show "Unknown Album".  My typical behavior is to download an album, listen the crap out of it, and then purchase it with my song credits. :)  Once I earn a badge under the Zune Pass content it seems like I lose it once I download the purchased copy.

I have one that I can confirm - I should have a Bronze Album badge for All That Remains' Overcome album (I did before) but now it's missing. I can see the album in my collection, but I don't get the "More info about this Album" when I look at the album, but I do when I look at the songs themselves.  If I follow the link on the songs I get a blank page in the Marketplace.  I can also see that I have duplicates of every song (when I select "show duplicates").  One version is the DRM protected Zune Pass content, while the other is the licensed copy I purchased with my song credits.  Forcing the duplicates to display caused the disconnected album view to suddenly link up and now I see the "More info..." link from the album context; however, it's based off of the Zune Pass content (which I'd like to delete now) and not the licensed content.  Furthermore, it hasn't magically fixed my badges (yet, fingers crossed).

Is there an FAQ for dealing with duplicate content and how to correctly convernt Zune Pass content to owned content?

re: Song / Album plays not being uploaded? Read this for some clarity

The problem I am having is that I have several import singles that don't show up properly in AMG.  In addition to exclusive promo releases for an artist that may not show up in AMG.  Also if you have older content or foreign albums.  In addition I don't always agree with the genre placements.  So much is labeled as Rock when its Pop and I will change the genre as such to what I feel it is.  Zune needs to be more flexible.

Last.fm deals with this in a much better manner.  Perhaps a solution is for us is to link an album to an artist listed in AMG regardless of if that Album fits one of theirs listed.

Also we need to be able to edit our play counts, possibly removing false scrobbles, as with one of my promo album it totally decides its another album and artist when its clearly tagged as another and due to its being a limited edition promo cd handed to a select few, its 100% not in AMG.

Also Zune needs Last.fm integration.  As many of us were using Last.fm before Zune came around and its sad to watch it stagnate, especially now with Xbox 360 integration.

re: Song / Album plays not being uploaded? Read this for some clarity
These issues are getting pretty frustrating. The Zune card and social page is a nice idea, but it's getting to the point where I just don't want to fight with the software to get things to show up properly.

First, I bought AFI's Crash Love the day it came out, and there was a case typo in the FreeDB entry (AFi, with a lowercase i) that caused the Zune software to not recognize the album. I listened to the album a lot, and when it was 1 play from a silver artist badge, the Zune software corrected the ID tags once the album info was finally added. So, now I have AFi sitting at 999 on my Zune page, with a new AFI bronze badge as well.

Yesterday, I bought Flyleaf's Memento Mori (Expanded) and my Zune software cannot link my album to the correct entry. Using the 'Find Album Info' tool returns only 1 result for the regular version of the album (with the first two tracks out of order, I might add). The funny thing is is that the exact same Memento Mori (Extended) album is available in the Zune marketplace, on the front page no less. Even though I can see my exact album in the Zune marketplace, I cannot seem to get my local copy to link up to it.

I understand that it takes some time for new albums to be added to the database, and that's not really where the problem is for me. My problem is that if you listen to an album with an incorrect tag or it's missing from the database, then all those plays are lost to an invalid entry. What would be great is that in the case of my first example, once the Zune software updated my AFI album to use the correct tag, it should have also associated the plays of those songs to the correct album and artist. I really don't want two AFI's sitting next to each other on my most played display, so it'd be nice if the two entries could be combined somehow. As it stands at the moment, I am hesitant to rack up lots of plays on my new Flyleaf album because I know that those plays will be incorrectly credited on my social page in a week or two when the database gets updated.

clearly, ms has got to give us a better tagging program/option. because the 'find album info' that the zune software has, sucks to no end.
