I'd like to vote in The Who... Their music was the start of a lot of anti-war protests. I know there were a lot of other great bands at that time, but to me The Who were the best in my mind.

Ok in my personal opinion one of the most influencial artist of the 20th centuary has to be Marilyn Manson. He took Rock music and put a new face on it. Wasn't afraid to go out there and say what had to be said and didn't care who thought it was inapporite or wrong, he did it. I mean at times he could have done it more tastefully yes I'll give you that but he did it his way. And didn't care who had a fit over it. He did what Elivs did in many ways and what again the Beatels did not too long after. He gave a generation a voice and someone they could relate to. He brought attention to the angst that many people feel. He for me, expressed something that was for a long time inexpressiable. Whether, it was feeling silly, fed up, angry, happy, depressed ect... he always hits the nail on the head for me. Most people think he's a bit insane but my question to that is: Who isn't?

Actually, I use to listen to a lot of Manson, knew/know a lot about the band and the change ups etc. I dont really listen to him anymore but I still acknowledge his kind of genius in the philociphies he holds and the art/music he's been making.

Not a big fan after Twiggy left though.

Ok, I may get crap for this but I'm standing by it. To me, it has to be Lady Gaga. Her sense of fashion (though reminiscent of Grace Jones) is different and nothing that is out there. She dresses weird, mainly without pants, and rocks it. She doesn't care what people think and to me that's impowering. Her music, from her Stefani days to her "The Fame"days to her demos that get released speradically are ALL different. She has such a range of music that makes her impressive. (Check out Words, then LoveGame, then Wonderful). And I will be honestly. Lady Gaga really can't dance, but she has such a confindence that shows "I know I can't dance, but I'll make it look like I can." And it's just so encouraging. To me personally she is my idol because she is wierd and different and she doesn't care. She is herself and that makes her so awesome.

I agree with paramount sub about Jimi Hendrix. I recently added a few of his songs to my Zune.
