re: Windows 7 Beta and Zune
I need some clarification on syncing the new .wtv files to my Zune. I did an in-place upgrade of my Vista Ultimate Media Center machine to Windows 7. x86. (Loving it) After installing a patch so that Media Center would play my previously recorded TV (probably unrelated), I am loving Media Center. The Zune software also worked great once I did the "run as Admin" thing the first time. But what I was hoping to see was that the new TV recordings would show up as videos in my Zune software. That is not the case. I've verified that I have the right folder being watched (removed and re-added, too), and even dragging the .wtv files into the Zune Videos page shows me the slashed circle. Is this by design? Or is there something more I need to do? Thanks! Kevin

Hi Kevin, WTV should be supported by the 3.1 Zune software. Can you go to your registry and tell me what value is shown under:

HKLM\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Media Center\\Ident

To do this, click start > run > then type in regedit and hit enter. Once there, go to H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > \\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Media Center\\Ident

It should have the number 6.0 there, let me know what your version number is.

Also, have you tried dragging and dropping just one of the WTV files at a time, and trying multiple ways (move the cursor around the app). I noticed when I tried this in house that the cursor would show the no smoking sign, but if I went to TV view, then tried it again, it would actually let me drop it in. Seemed to be some sort of UI problem, which I did log in our database.

Its a pain, please fix.

Status update on this one, I was able to reproduce this in house and the teams are investigating a fix. Thanks for bringing up the issue here!

My version number is 5.0. Would that still be a version number from Vista Media Center? As I said, I'm running a Vista Ultimate-to-Windows 7 Ultimate (beta) in-place upgraded system. Not sure why Zune 3.1 would care, though. Related question: If I were to un-install/re-install the Zune software, would that mess up my Zunepass subscription and the association with this computer?

Oh.. and to answer your question about whether I have drag/dropped.. yes, I've tried all of those iterations. And as I said - the Zune software is seeing that folder, because the dvr-ms files that are there are showing up great.

Ok, having version 5.0 is the problem. I am going to follow up with the media center team and see if this is a known issue or not. I just checked this on my own machine that I upgraded from Vista Ultimate to Win7 and I have the same versioning problem.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanks Matt, Sorry I didn't get back to your earlier question, hadn't checked back in a while, but you understand correctly.  Also, pulling the Zune out of the dock and reseating it seems to help sometimes too.  Thanks for looking into it!

Oh, and doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing with the extender, just that an MCX session is signed in.  Extender can be on, but not playing media, and I still get this error.

Yeah, we found that you really just need to have WMC open when you connect the device for this to happen. This ended up being a WMC bug that they should have fixed in the release version of Win7.

Welcome to beta testing! :)

re: Windows 7 Beta and Zune

Skip, what's up? I have a bit of a situation on my hands right now that I narrowed down to Windows 7 Beta and/or Zune software.  I created a autoplaylist to show recently added songs with rules (In the last (days): 2, Never Played) and my autoplaylist continues to stay blank.  I know this cannot be right because I've added about 4 different albums yesterday that should have shown up in this list.  So after doing some digging, I found that for some reason my files have a date added as 12/31/1969 and other albums will have other random dates as well.

Playlist Edit

Empty Playlist

Arrangement - I added Ayumi Hamasaki - evolution yesterday 4/08/09.  It has a date added as 3/26/2009.  To the left of it (miss)understood was added about 10 days ago which has a correct date of 3/30/2009.

It does seem that dates are being placed randomly as seen in the image below.

I tried renaming zunestore.sdf to zunestore.old and this didn't change anything.  I also went as far as doing a collection reset which didn't fix this issue either. My conclusion is that this is either a Windows 7 Beta issue in which it adds these random dates to the file or it's a combination of Windows 7 Beta and the Zune software not working together properly.

re: Windows 7 RC and Zune
I'm experiencing a big memory leak trying to Sync my Zune 80. I'm running Windows 7 RC x64. I had to kill the Zune.exe process after it hit 2.5 Gigs of memory use(!). This is definately reproducable. This is happening when I'm loading my Library into my Zune (5k songs). Anyone see this as well?
