re: Zune In Car
Check out http://www.soundgate.com/index.php?request=category.index&categoryid=263& and see if your vehicle is supported.. Most likely it will no,t as Sound gate started working on stuff after 2003-ish http://www.soundgate.com/upload//productdocuments/0306.pdf  The  Fm transmitter sounds like the best bet for you unless you want to buy a new Head Unit Especially since we can't expect 3rd party head unit makers to pick up Zune compatibility that soon a post made by Solar257 on the social circle blog http://www.insidethecircle.net/2008/09/one-more-thing.html:
  • Metadata capable head units are coming (being able to plug your Zune directly into a stereo receiver and have it read the contents). Their (the 3rd party head unit manufacturers) development cycle is three years. So those units should be coming next year at the earliest.

re: Zune In Car
I'm a bad Zune owner.  I never posted pics of my custom install:
Here is my screen

Here is the Zune hidden in the console with a Zune Version 1 Home A/V kit

Here is the PAC remote extender that is controlled by the Home A/V kit wireless remote

Here is the transmitter that sends the signal to the dock(right side of screen)

What displays while music is playing

A movie playing off the Zune

I did this a few months ago, June I think and it works amazingly.  The dock charges the Zune as well through a hardwired power connection.  Of course I need to get a new Zune because a couple of weeks ago I lost it tubing on the Guadalupe river Sad [:(]

This was done in an 08 Ford F-150.

Nice set up, I still haven't received the cable that permits an Aux. cable out of my radio, it was Back Order, hopefully will get a call later this week.

What I don't get is MS is partnering with Pioneer on the AVIC units that have MSN direct so why no Zune integration?  I would love to be able to control the zune on screen in my car.  What's the hold up?  Is it due to market share?

I'm  guessing the issue is that Ford/pioneer has a Proprietary deal with Microsoft not to sell the sync units after market.  Mainly so that Ford can have a another "selling point" for their vehicles...  Although i wouldn't buy a ford just because it has sync, Sync wont sell cars.......   I agree with you that its idiotic that Pioneer can't release the zune integration  head units to the rest of the market.   At least we will hopefully be getting Head units next year.. although that is a loooot of time..

I want to listen to my zune in my car so bad. What's the best item to get for this?

Kenwood's attempt at Zune integration... 250$ ... i guess its better than the sound gate option.. but it still not a real head unit..

I still say Sound Gate Zune Core for $59.99.  The thing is awesome.  Save yourself the trouble and the money.

$250.00?  You might as well buy a new headunit then spend that much on an attachment.

I just purchased these myself.  Can't wait to install them.

Let me Know how that works out im still kinda skeptical about how well the sound gate thing will work...  I still wish Head unit companies would just integrate with regular head units...  and yeah The Kenwood add on is pretty expensive..

I have the SoundGate Zune Core hooked up now and the sound quality is insane.  It is crisp and very clean and very slick.  Once I mount the M2 and hook up the remote, I will take pictures of my install for everyone to see.  Btw, the core allows you to send video from the Zune to any screens using RCA's.

re: Zune In Car
I used the Aux port in the back of my Pioneer. I got rid of the XM I was paying for and plugged my Zune into it. I had to purchase an IP bus cable, installing it took about 5 minutes. I don't even burn CDs any more. I just wish there was a car radio that would let me control the zun from the head unit like they do with ipods.
