re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?
Well said MollyMorbid.  If one were to define Christian music it is simply music that directly honours and glorifies Christ.  For me some genres just can't be included because I just don't understand what they are singing.  That's usually because I don't listen to the genres at all.  Lyrics are important and if I can't hear them then I can't sing them and then I can't honour and glorify Christ.

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?

I listen to Christian music because of Christ's conviction. I used to be a big MCR fan and other rock bands, but I knew that it didn't glorify God. Now as I listen to Christian rock and classical music, I find that I still have to be leery of "Christian" bands. There are many groups that claim the Christian label, but you can't see it in their lyrics. When that happens, I scratch my head and wonder how they even got on the label. I really like P.O.D., but some of their swearing makes me really think about backing off from them. But here are some of my favs if anyone is curious:

Delirious?

Sanctus Real

Relient K

Needtobreathe

I listen to christian music because a lot of un christian songs just repeat like the same thing over and over again or have no point. The whole point of a song is too express a point. Christian music not only expresses a point, but it shows a christian theme that is always good to here. Just like i always here from my teachers, u become what u listen to

flierJOE, great testimony, and I love the use of scripture.  Romans 12:1&2 are my verses.  God bless.

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?

I agree with both of you,

In short :

6 yrs ago I knew there was Christian music, however I knew NOTHING about it.

4 years ago I started listing to Christian Radio (Music/Programs/more)

(salvation at 47)

3 years ago I gave up secular music completely.

Now I listen to only Christian Music / Watch DVD with positive values.

1 year 6 mos ago my previously unsaved mother met Jesus :)

Simply

Trust in the Lord With All your Heart Lean not on your own understandings and in all ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.

As for me and my house...

Also Isaiah 66:2 helps me live the Joshua verse

If we give up the bad thing in the world God can transform us in to His New Creations...

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?

Christian music is all that my little ears hear through my Zune...why?

Because in simple term all that you put into yourself though music, movies, or reading will eventually be manifested on the outside.

Most of the secular music today contains mere garbage... and all of that music that goes into your ears will come out either through your mouth or your actions.

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?

all different kinds of music, music in and of itself it beautiful and inspiring so I don't get that hung up on genre.  I listen to Christian music because I am a Christain (= faith in Jesus Christ) and with the whole world screaming for each person's attention it is easy to get distracted from what is most important.  It's important to me to keep a majority of inputs into my life (music, tv, internet surfing, people we hang out with) clean.  So I mainly only listen to Christian music, it's all that's on my zune.  If I'm going to listen to music I want it to cause me to reflect on my relationship with the saviour, my actions towards others, or to be encouraged.

That and the fact that secular music is a potential stumbling block for me, so I just get rid of it. There are two bands that I can think of that are not "Christian" that I have and they are Thrice and Yellowcard. Both of which, I believe are influenced by individual members' faith in Christ.

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?

I agree with you.  Before I would listen to Christian music 98% of the time and then clean secular music the other 2% but, I noticed that though the other music was not sinful...I noticed my thought life would be more sinful, selfish and prideful...so I quit listening to secular music altogether.  Just me.  I know others may not be convicted as I was.  My suggestion is be sensitive to your conscience.

Now why do I listen to 'Christian' music?  I like to be reminded of my lowness, sinfulness and the grace that saved me from slavery to my depraved sinful nature.  Nothing else can satisfy my thoughts and ears since redemption found me.  So Christian music (good Christian music) reminds me of Christ Gospel, grace, my total dependance on Him.  Helps me keep my focus higher and less on me and the god of self.  Prayerful music...like Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, ChristOurLife, Soverign Grace....So anyway...there is my 2 cents.

Just another ForgivenSinner!

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?

I enjoy listening to gospel it stirs my spirit and keeps me from straying away from god's plan for my life. It encourages, Uplifts, Enlightens, and it also gives me the chance to dwell on the word of god because most of the christian music is scriptual.
