re: Am I the only one who thinks the selection sucks?

This is to All

Let's think for a moment.

What is the purpose of the music I listen to ? ? ?

1. To serve me or me-n-my friends.

2. To show others "I am a Christian" and I enjoy mixing it with all the worlds style of music !

3. To tell others that Christ Died on the Cross, Is resructed, Paid my Sin Debt !

4. Is it a song that will become Classic in it value and nature ?

5. Is it sung as a "Offering to the Lord" (make a joyful noise unto the Lord)

6. Is it music I can ponder and sing w/out music when alone.

(no graded answer just a thought question)

Next...Is The difference in Christian music and Secular music ?

Secular music for example: Woe is Me / Woe is You, party party till I die as there is nothing else???

Christian Music: There is more than "Woe is Me / Woe is You, for I know Christ and I know I should be saying Woe is me because I desere to go to the "Lake of Fire" yet CHRIST is my ASSURANCE of something else called "GLORY / HEAVEN"

What do I sing when alone?? and Who do I sing to ??

I mean no disrespect to anyone who enjoys the music listed in the Christian section, but I'm sorry, none of that stuff appeals to me. I look at the top lists for artists, albums, and songs and I can't stand any of it. I will admit that my taste is for heavier music in general, but even getting past that aspect of music, the stuff in the Christian section is just LAME. I'm all for Worship music and I can understand where people like to listen to it, but what I want to see more of is the rock and roll stuff. And please don't think I'm talking about the junk on Christian radio. I'm talking about the bands that aren't touring the Christian music festivals, but they are out in the world with everyone else. I'll post my library for you to get a taste of what I listen to, but don't think that I'm asking for everything in this list, I just want the people on this board to notice that there is a lot of great Christian music out there, but it's not being supported by the mainstream.

I know that these bands are in the Marketplace for download, but what I want to see is for them to be made known in a bigger way under the Christian music banner. It's a shame for people to click "Christian" and only get stuff like MercyMe, Kirk Franklin, Casting Crowns, Michael W. Smith, and Third Day. There's a LOT more out there! I only listed a few of the bands I listen to.

QFT...  I think this touches on the bigger discussion of what music is "Christian" or "Secular," similar to another thread on this forum...

You are right in a way, that these bands' beliefs in God should be broadcast a little louder for the world to hear...  however, most bands/singers don't like to be pigeonholed into the "Christian" label, as most non-believers get turned off to these groups as soon as they see that label...  potential fans will get turned off to that label "Christian" before they even give the music a chance...

I've read numerous magazine & online interviews where the members of bands like this were asked if they were a "Christian" band, and all of them reply with the same (or similar) answer: "we're not a Christian band, we are just Christians IN a band"

A religious person (read: legalist) would say that this answer means that are in some way ashamed of their belief, when in reality, they don't want to get stuck in that whole "Christian music genre", where only believers will listen to & buy their music.  I believe that genres should be listed as Rock, Pop, Country, Rap, Jazz, etc... not "Christian"
Let the band minister to the listeners once they get hold of the music, whether it be in the lyrics, or after a concert backstage or at the merch table...

Once again, just my 2 cents worth...

re: Am I the only one who thinks the selection sucks?

i definitely understand your frustration. i have extremely similar music interests as you have listed. i'd say one reason is likely that many of the bands you mentioned are not necesarilly regarded as a christian band the way that the corny mainstream ones are.  they have christian faith yes, but are recognized as a band the way other secular bands are. just a rock band or metal band.  not a 'christian band.'  oh well, we have to do more work to find the music we like, i guess.  it sucks yes, but i can't see it changing :(

Being a "christian" is about what you talk about or what you believe in. Anyone can talk about what they believe in. To be BELIEVED (that is the keyword here, BELIEVED) to be a christian one must WALK a TALK and SHOW that they believe in something you can't see and using "FAITH" as a justification for those beliefs doesn't get you by. What you sing about matters not because a concert is simply a show and shows are complete fabrication you have to go out and be the same day by day 100% and yet at the same time realize that you are no better then the person next to you.

I understand that "yeah, we need some new music" but seriously, if all us Christians are bickering and fighting among ourselves over music, how can we show non-believers who God is? My suggestion: support all Christian artists (because they're evangelizing through their music), listen to your favorite bands enough to get them on the top Christian artists, and just share your favorites with as many people as you can.

In Christ,

Well, there is one thing you can do to help effect a change.  Take the CDs of your favorite artists and rip them to your zune.  Doing so will cause them to appear on your profile.  Then you favorite them, and if enough people favorite the same artists, I'm certain that they will start appearing on Zune Marketplace.

Negative.  The recording industry controls the content on the Zune Marketplace not the users.

You seem to forget the demand side of things.  If the demand is indicated, the market will move to fill it, as there is money not being made.
