I agree. but I listen to alot of songs that are positive but not under the Christian label. As long as the messages are positive, I'm for it. Especially being married.

Switchfoot is a joke and i'm appalled with how corporate Skillet has become.  I remember Skillets first album and it was great.

I think Skillet started going downhill with Invincible. Everything after Kill Me Heal Me just sounds the same. As mean as it sounds I blame it on them letting the lead singer's wife into the mix. Accomidating her has limited them greatly it appears.

re: Um, wow

I really liked Comatose as well, some of their best work I thought, better than some of their older stuff.

I do agree that "Christian Music" has lost some of it's message and that they are maybe starting to cater to the mainstream crowd more and more.  Everything I have on my Zune is Christian or considered to be Christian.  In my mind though, their message is staying positive, and the lyrics are still clean and uplifting, and that's what I look for in my music.  I don't like being sworn at, I don't like hearing about how many people you've done it with, etc...  If I wanted to hear about that I'd go to the bar!

My music styles are all over the place, Third Day, Demon Hunter, Super Tones, 12 Stones, Petra, Flyleaf, Fireflight, you name it, it's probably there, but it's all good in my mind.

Well there you go, another opinion, and like FaNgUnKnOwn said, people think I'm weird too.

happy trails...

I love how people think Skillet "sold out".

They didn't "sell out", they just toned back the insane synthesizers and improved their musicianship and skill.  Yes, they sounded more "unique" with their first albums, but you're not listening very well if you can't recognize the better music in their later albums.

I would listen to any music that's for God anyday. I may like some more than others but I'll take them all, oh yes I do like Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, Todd Agnew and probably many others you haven't mentioned.

re: Um, wow

I think we should expect that artists' music will change over time, and it's very normal for the artist's style to move closer to the music that's popular at the time.  I mean, if the Newsboys sounded the same today as they did on their "Boys Will Be Boyz" album, nobody would be listening to their music anymore.  We would have missed out on a lot of great music that they've produced in the last 20 years, and the world would have lost the benefit of their message and ministry.

It's also totally natural that some people who like an artist's music at one time will not like the later stuff as much -- or vice versa.  But I think it's a little harsh to use words like "fake" and "sell out" because those words seem to imply that the artists have turned their backs on their values in order to make more money or bring more glory to themselves.  Yes, Skillet's sound has evolved over the past 10 years, and they have become very popular, but that doesn't mean that their motives were bad.  Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to simple creative choices and a desire to bring their positive messages to larger audiences.

re: Um, wow
I think there are some great Christian artists out there still who do not water down anything.  Some of the classics are still around and better then ever.  The Newsboys new album is there best to date IMO.  The lyrics are so powerful and the music has matured alot.  Steven Curtis Chapman was never a favorite but his last three albums have moved me to tears at times.  The witness he has given through his families recent trials has also been a shining example of Christ as well.  Third Day has once again become a favorite of mine with the album Revelation.

As for new bands I am not that into the current mix.  I feel that KJ52 is a great artist who really has a desire to praise God in what he does.  Recently one of my students had me listen to a new group called Fee.  I was shocked at how forward they were about their faith and really enjoyed their sound as well.  I also think you can not deny that David Crowder Band is so on fire for God.  Amamzing stuff comes from that group.

As for Skillet Alien Youth was the album I liked the most.  I love that industrial metal elctronica sound and they perfected it there.  I was really disappointed with Collide and Comatose and felt like they had toned things down till I went to a concert and read some of their comments about the songs.  I think they have not written any powerful ballads since Alien Youth but I also believe they still have things to say with regards to their faith, it may not be a direct quotation and sitation of a verse but they still have the message there and they still preach it from the stage.

re: Um, wow
I agree yet disagree.
I miss some of the old Christian music (especially Steven Curtis Chapman)
But some of the new stuff is quite good!
Skillet comments I definitely disagree with, their new albums are definitely better, although their old ones aren't bad.
How about Leeland, Fee, By The Tree, Hillsong United... ?
There's plenty of good new artists, I think you just got to find them.

Music is definitely becoming more secular, but I also think just because an artists isn't Christian, doesn't mean they talk about drugs, sex, and violence.  Just words for thought!

It's nice to see a Christian community somewhat on Zune, didn't even know it was here!
