Dieselboy, Photek, Astral Projection, DJ Tiesto, Basshunter, Crystal Method, Carl Cox, Armin Van Buuren, Juno Reactor, and Technical Itch would be toward the top of my list when it comes to electronic artists I'd recommend you check out.  The shakedown podcast is pretty good too as far as progressive trance goes.

re: Electronica Playlists for Newbies
Good suggestions! Also, I just found in the Zune Marketplace that some of the editors here (not my part of the product, so I didn't know about it before) have put together "Explore <subgenre>" playlists - there's Explore Trance (which I didn't like at all, and frankly didn't agree that it was the most representative of today's trance music), Explore House, Explore Drum & Bass, Explore Breakbeats, and Explore Techno; maybe more, but those are the ones I listened to. So if you're a Zune Pass subscriber, that might be a good way to get a feel for different subgenres...although I'm curious as to whether other people feel the tracks in each list are actually representative of the genre. I feel like I only know trance well enough to judge...

re: Electronica Playlists for Newbies
Let me help you out, electronic music is my favorite.

For Funky/Groovy:
Plump DJs
Soul of Man
Freeland (not Adam Freeland, but his band)
Chemical Brothers

For Working Out/Getting in Fights:
Prodigy
Crystal Method (Vegas is hands down the best of their albums, but they have a mix called Community Service (the first, not the second one) that's pretty awesome)
Andy C & DJ Hype (hard, Hard, HARD drum and bass)

For Nuskool Breaks:
Tayo
D. Ramierez
Santos
NuBreed

For Chillin':
Susumu Yokota
Bombshelter DJs

For Your Listening Pleasure (i.e. you should check these out at the very least):
DJ Shadow (not really electronic, but still excellent)
Amon Tobin
Burial
Bola
U.N.K.L.E.
Klute

Old School (early 90's, not the oldest, but feels old enough for me):
Fluke
808 State
Aphex Twin
Massive Attack

That really covers a lot of the keys sounds that I enjoy, hope you enjoy some of these too.

D. Ramierez, the track's called Slave.  The other side of the vinyl is called Venus and Mars, I think; I wasn't as impressed with that one as I am with Slave.  I've heard all sorts of remixes the guy has done, stellar regard in the industry.  I suggest googling him, or checking out http://www.knowhowrecords.co.uk/.  If you go to the site, you can search for him, then listen to some of the tracks he's actually put onto wax.

Here's my current trance playlist:

Song title/Artist

Starstrings/ Jody Wisternoff

Till the Sky Falls Down/ Dash Berlin

Love Shines Through/ Martin Roth

Not Over/ Paul Oakenfold

Sound of Goodbye [ Dark Matter Remix] /Armin van Buuren

Big Sky (Agneilli & Nelson Remix) / John O'Callaghan

War of Hearts / George Acosta

Love All the Pain Away/ Ronski Speed

Posession / Ferry Corsten

Break My Fall/ Tiesto

Let Go / Paul van Dyk

All really good tracks,

My advice, or at least what I do is Use my XM in my car to sample tracks. If i like what I am hearing I'll go out and get the CD or a mix with a few good tracks on it. I used to be exclusive to trance, however with styles melting together you don't have just tech, house or trance its all a mash-pot of music.

Me too, actually, though I have Sirius (Area 33 FTW!).

Anyway, I have something new to add: High Contrast. It's drum & bass, which isn't normally my style, but I LOVE IT.

Anything mixed by D:Fuse. Seriously, the guy's awsome.  Way better than Paul Oaken-whatever and the rest mainstreamers.  He's got his own show on XM radio and you can download them @ djdfuse.com...oops, didnt mean to give a free plug there. I just wish Zune had more of his stuff, especially his old albums so I could get the ones I sold when I was a poor college student.  If you like trance, progressive, you have to check him out.  I wont take no for an answer!Stick out tongue [:P] good luck on ur electronica exploration.
