I just posted this is another thread at the top referring to the 3.2 update. Here it is again.
~*~
When I tried to update my Zune 80 last night - it froze midway through
on step 3. Stayed on step 3 for 20+ minutes ... maybe 30+.
When I attempted to cancel the update, I couldn't ... so when I
attempted to shut down the update - it told me that if I did, my Zune
could potentially stop working. I let it sit for a few more minutes,
without change, and again tried to cancel the update without luck - and
so decided to take the risk and shut down the program.
Upon shutting it down, the Zune immediately stopped working. I couldn't
turn it on or anything. So, I did what I could last night to do some
research in regards to doing a system-restore on the device.
I found what I was looking for, but first decided - per
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931912?sd=zune
<--- this website, to allow the battery to run down overnight so
that I could recharge it in the morning. As expected, the battery ran
down and the Zune turned off over night. So, I try recharging it this
morning ... no luck. Nothing changed. When I attempted to turn my Zune
on, I'd only get a dark-grey screen with the backlight on.
So, I followed the instructions,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927001/
<--- here, in an attempt to erase all the content on my Zune, and
start fresh. Following the steps, everything we just fine. It told me
that it was Erasing Content, after which it told me to connect my Zune
to the PC. I did this. The computer recognized the Zune, and brought up
the Zune software on my computer. The Zune software noted that my Zune
was in need of a Firmware update - so I clicked the Accept button so
that my Zune could update.
It started updating just fine, but then it reached step 2 - during which I got this Error Message:
"Can't sync because there isn't enough space on your Zune. Delete some items, then try again."
Error Code: C00D124F
I tried this a couple of times on my own, hoping to get a different result. No luck.
Finally, I called Customer Support. I talked to a representative who
was nice enough. She asked me to attempt what I had just done
previously, a couple more times. I did exactly as she said - and still,
no luck. No matter what, whenever I try to update the Firmware, it now
tells me that my Zune is full and that I need to delete the contents on
my Zune and try again.
Well, I can't access the content on the device (assuming that there is any content on it anyway).
She told me that because we couldn't repair it over the phone, my only
option was to send it in and have it replaced with a new one. That's
all well and good, of course ... but the catch is - it's out of
warranty. I've had this Zune for close to a year and a half to two
years now. So, with that in mind, all I have to pay for a replacement
Zune 80 is $169.99.
I don't have the money for this - even with two jobs. I have more
important expenses - such as food, and gas, and insurance, that absorb
my money.
Microsoft's Zune update messed up - and now I have to pay for it. I see
this as highly unfair. I did nothing wrong here. I take excellent care
of my Zune; it hardly has a scratch on it - and now, I have to pay for
an error that is not my own, in order to once again have a operational
music device.
I bought this Zune after doing months of research and deciding whether
or not I really wanted to spend nearly $300 (after all was said and
done) on a device such as this. I weighed my options - between the
iPod, the Zune, and several other devices. When I narrowed it down to
the Zune, I weighed my options between the different devices that were
available at the time. I realized that the 80gig was pretty expensive,
but at least it had all of the features I decided I wanted.
I rarely ever make big purchases like this, but when I do, I expect
that they'll last me a long time. The last MP3 player that I had lasted
me 8-years before it crapped out.
I really hope this can be resolved.... I enjoy my Zune a lot. I listen
to it every day. Again, I take excellent care of it ... and yet, when I
need Customer Service help for the first time in the life of my Zune -
all of a sudden I feel like I'm being ripped off/screwed over.
- A very unhappy customer

I'm at least happy to know that I'm not the only one who has an issue with this. If this is the case - that Microsoft's update screwed up our Zunes - and the Zunes are out of warranty then perhaps we can get replacements without having to pay for them.
