Only problem is, since the metals in the device have been exposed to water, after a while it will begin to rust...

as such limiting the life of your device

I don't think so...  for two reasons.  1) rust or oxidation requires the continued presence of the oxidant.  If it is removed, the process ceases.  2) I doubt there is much in there to rust...  the body is milled aluminum I believe I have read, and other metal parts are likely to be stainless steel, coated and/or other rust resistant materials.

Rice, a hair dryer, and a little sunlight fixed my Zune 120 after leaving it in the washing machine. (:

Doh how did I miss that on my phone? After all it's an HTC, and they always put the best warning labels on things. It must have come off in the wash :( ;)

LOL.... yeah.
I'm from Boston and my first stab at that post was that the label was 'wicked' small... and I quickly edited that out...!  But sometimes the Boston 'lingo' is actually perfect...

Nothing wrong with 'wicked'.  I actually like the way people from Boston talk. I've picked up some of the lingo over the years and use it over here in Washington, and sometimes people just stare.  Meh, it's not like I'm trying to do the whole accent, but 'wicked' has definitely crept into my vocabulary over the years.

Shortening down street names has too...telling people to drive down Park Ave...instead of saying Avenue full out.

re: How To Fix a Wet Zune

My son left his Zune in his pocket and it made it through both the wash and dry cycles.  He was devastated.  I had heard about the rice and freezer trick for wet cell phones so what did I have to loose.  I put it in a baggie of rice, real stuff, not instant, and put it in the freezer for two days.  Then left the baggie on the counter for two days.  I took it out and put it on the charger.  Works just like it did when it came our of the box!

I'm glad it worked...next time (and hopefully there never is a next time...) skip the freezer.  You want to suck the moisture out...if you freeze it in place, it can't evaporate...

Yea I can't seem to think of any way that freezing it would help it in any way, Maybe if it was temporary in case you ran out of rice or something haha.  But thinking about it I can only think of it slowing down the process of the rice being able to suck the moisture out and the fact that the water would expand might do something bad, depending on how much there is inside your Zune.

He's mixing up a couple different things it sounds like.

There's the rice method which is for drying out a device.

Then there's a vacuum sealed bag in the freezer to get a hard drive that's dead to work temporarily (in some cases)
