re: What songs have gotten you through a rough patch?

In terms of lightening my heart, there are many separately: highlighted by "Let My Love Open the Door" by Townshend (it's really about God), "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles (God bless George Harrison), "Strawberry Fields Forever" (say no more) and "The Prison" album by Michael Nesmith.

But, what immediately came to mind is "Quadrophenia," the album by The Who.  Contemplative and at the same time desperate, it relates to sorting yourself out, and that you aren't alone in that search.

"We'll Be Here (When You're Gone)" by Goo Goo Dolls  got me through - I know this sounds totally stupid - Harry Potter ending. :/

"Defy Gravity" from the Wicked OBC soundtrack got me through...a lot of things.

"Even Angels Fall" by Jessica Riddle got me through my Junior year (a bad year :/)

"Get Over It" by OK Go helps me get over just about all the small stuff.

And here's the cheesy one:

"Kelsey" by Metro Station gets me through times when I miss my girlfriend, Kelsey. c:

Queensryche's Silent Lucidity when my grandmother passed, Metallica's Fade to Black helped get me through High School, and the Dream Theater album Images and Words got me through a tough break up.

I would have to say that Soul Cages by Sting helped.

i know this may seem kind of lame, but the one i used was "Big Boy Now" - Richard Marx (Rush Street).  i think i used "Someday" - Glass Tiger at the early stages of a break-up.

re: What songs have gotten you through a rough patch?
About two years ago I went through a really messy break up with my ex-fiance. For about an entire year I listened almost exclusively to Midtown's "Forget What You Know", "Living Well Is the Best Revenge" and "Save the World Lose the Girl". If you've never heard the band before, the best way I can describe them is that they are the male equivalent of Alanis Morsette's "Jagged Little Pill": bitter songs about women and break ups.

Specifically:

To Our Savior
Waiting for the News
So Long as We Keep Our Bodies Numb We're Safe
Become What You Hate
A Faulty Foundation
Find Comfort in Yourself
Just Rock and Roll
Knew it All Along

No specific songs come to mind, but I always listened to certain albums; Oh Grave, Where is Thy Victory? by Here I Come Falling, A Piece of Strange by Cunninlynguists, and most recently OneOneThousand by Burden of a Day.
