I just got a zune 120, and already had a zune 80.  I'm using Windows XP, SP3.  Had no problems with the zune 80 prior to installing Zune 3.0.  Now it does not recognize the zune 80 or zune 120.  I spent 2 hrs with customer support last night.  We tried uninstalling and reinstalling zune (including using unzoone to make sure it was completely uninstalled).  We tried uninstalling and reinstalling WMP11.  We tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, using different usb ports, resetting the zune, rebooting the computer (numerous times).  Device manager recognizes that I have a zune connected, Zune 3.0 doesn't.  I now have an empty zune and no way to sync it.  They escalated my call up 2 different levels, and someone from MS is supposed to be calling me back with a better fix, but that will be several business days.  In the meantime I have to train for a half marathon with no music, and have a party at my house tonight, where I can't play any of my digital music.  Unbelievable.

Sorry you are having problems. Did you try renaming the Zunestore.sdf, or the Zune folder it resides in, as noted above?

And to be sure, you have driver version 3.0.286 installed, correct?

re: Zune 3.0 - Device not recognized by Zune software (non-driver issues)

You might also try this:

1.       Click Start -> Run -> Services.msc

2.       Look for a service “Windows Mobile-2003-based device connectivity”

3.       If that service is in the “Disabled” state, change it to manual

4.       Restart the Zune software

5.       Connect device

re: Zune 3.0 - Device not recognized by Zune software (non-driver issues)

I just tried renaming the Zunestore.sdf, restarting the zune software, and reconnecting my device.  Still no luck.  The driver I have installed is version 3.0.286.0.  I also tried to follow these instructions you posted:

1.       Click Start -> Run -> Services.msc

2.       Look for a service “Windows Mobile-2003-based device connectivity”

3.       If that service is in the “Disabled” state, change it to manual

4.       Restart the Zune software

5.       Connect device

I did not have a service called "Windows Mobile-2003-based deviceconnectivity"  Is the problem that this is missing?

re: Zune 3.0 - Device not recognized by Zune software (non-driver issues)

i was able to fix my issue

i searched google and downloaded the 2.5 software version

i then connected my zune and it was detected and sync'd just fine ( i connected as guest)

My initial thought was to update the firmware first but i guess that is not possable so i updated the software to 3.0

i thne restarted my PC and restarted the software and connected my Zune

at first it was not connecting then after about 6-7 minutes my software dectected the device and i was able to update the firmware

It works fine as of now .. and sync's great ..

I have no idea why it was not connecting at first but after a little fiddling around it worked ( thank god)

Can you direct me to where you found the Zune 2.5 software so I can give this a try?

re: Zune 3.0 - Device not recognized by Zune software (non-driver issues)
i was able to fix my problem and here are the steps i took

1: intall UnZoone on your pc ( http://remove-it.org/tools/unzoone )

2: Using UnZoone uninstall your old software ( unzoone completely
removes the old software)

3: intall the older 2.5 version of the software (
http://www.brothersoft.com/zune-software-download-63704.html) ( use
the server 2 option )

4: connect your zune as "guest" and make sure the software recognizes it

5: update the software, disconnect your zune and restart your PC

6: restart your zune software and let it load completely

7: reconnect your zune ( it took 7 minutes for my software to recognize it)

8: update your firmware.

re: Zune 3.0 - Device not recognized by Zune software (non-driver issues)

Device Type: 80Gb

O/S: Utimate  32 bit

Specific Issue: Able to sync with new 3.0 softwre to hotspot and get into Marketplace, but when I decide to "buy" a song it wants to charge me even though I am a Zune Pass subscriber. It says i am not logged in, even though I logged in on my PC and sync'd up with my PC before i went wireless..am i to assume i can listen to songs on Marketplace while wireless but cannot download them into my Zune?

re: Zune 3.0 - Device not recognized by Zune software (non-driver issues)

When you post here, please include the following:

Device type? Zune 80

Operating system? Vista 32 bit

Specific issue you are having? PC did not detect Zune

Exact steps you took before the issue occurred? Connecting Zune to two different PCs

Things you have tried to fix the issue? Rebooted Zune

Did this work prior to the 3.0 release? Yes

Rebooting the Zune has seemed to solve the problem although I've only connected to desktop and not my laptop since the fix.

Is there something specific I need to do to connect as a "guest"?  I've never done that.

I tried installing the 2.5 software, but when I try installing it, it won't complete installation unless I'm connected to the internet.  If I am connected to the internet, it automatically upgrades to version 3.  How did you get it to install version 2.5?????

I am so fed up at this point.  I don't want to do it, but I'm considering returning my Zune and buying an ipod.
