re: Metallica or Megadeth
I would say Metallica because of the good guitar and the new album. I haven't heard Megadeath.

I listen to both frequently, but I do have to say Metallica. They can do very thrashy stuff (Battery), and, at the same time, more calm down stuff (Unforgiven). Also, they had that live album S&M, which was really, really, awesome.

Megadeth is really just thrash. (not trash, THRASH metal). I like a lot of their songs.

I like both.  I have to say, however, that I doubt Megadeth ever would have materialized had there not been Metallica in the first place.  Love them or hate them, whether you prefer their old stuff or new, Metallica was ground breaking.

I got basically almost every album. Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?, Countdown to Extinction, Rust in Peace, Youthanasia, Rust in Peace are all in my Zune.

It's not really speed...I consider speed as kinda power metal, in my book.

re: Metallica or Megadeth
I've loved Metallica for as long as I remember, but I feel the slightest bit disappointed by their new cd... it does feel very cohesive and polished, but none of the songs stand out too much to me (well The unforgiven III is pretty awesome.)  I feel like I hear the same few riffs in every track and the lyrics seem less powerful.  It's still a wonderful metal album though; they've just set the bar pretty high with their other ones.

Maybe I'm an outlier though and the majority of metal fans think the band's headed in the right direction with this release.  I'm no major fan and certainly haven't followed the genre as closely as i wish I had been, but figured I'd throw in my 2 cents and see what you guys thought.

I'd also like to quote someone from earlier in this post who said they haven't heard any megadeth so they like Metallica better! WTF  What kind of opinion is that!
For "Master Trave" I'd like to say that without Dave Mustaine, Metallica would have never formed like they did!  He was on their first CD, provided guitar, vocals and lyrics.  The members of Metallica thought he was to extreme though and kicked him to the curb.  So starting from scratch Mustaine set out to create a band that would be better, heavier and darker then Metallica!  Heavier and darker without a doubt!  Better... a matter of opinion I guess.  I prefer Megadeth 10 to 1 no question, dave has continuously sought to improve the band at every chance he gets, bringing in better musicians as former ones depart.   While Metallica continue to water their music down so little teeny boppers will get sucked into the notion that this is true metal!haha how little they know!  Starting with the Black ablum they are at best heavy rock.

DAVE MUSTAINE'S VOICE IS THE SHIIIT!

No actually the members of Metallica thought Dave was an @$$ and kicked him to the curb.  Love them or hate them they're both very talented outfits.  Until the day comes that I could ever even dream of playing better than them, they both rock.  Hows that for fence sitting? lol

Well...pouring beer down the neck of someone's bass could be seen as both really. Still I gotta say, much respect for Megadeth, but much love for Metallica

re: Metallica or Megadeth
Metallica has (except for the last two albums) a much "cleaner" sound - thus, I prefer Megadeth. They're more aggressive, more varied in their sound, and their music's harder to play. I could probably outdrum Lars in a year's time, but Nick Menza would take a while to catch up with.

Megadeth by a long yard, Metallica has been a mixed bag since Master of Puppets. Granted Mustaine & Co. have been equally mixed but remained more interesting and gritty.
