I would have to go with Big Joe Turner. If it wasn't for his "Shake, Rattle & Roll" song, Rock N Roll may never have started. Bill Haley was also very big in the beginning of Rock N Roll, but it was Turner that really influenced alot of later stars as in Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Little Richard.

James F***ing Brown!  This guy has influenced more styles of music than anyone imho.  And he is THE most sampled musician in history!  I dare to say that hip-hop wouldn't even exist without him... or at the very least it would be very very different.  More than a few techno styles would be different as well.  Modern RnB... the list goes on and on.

Im gunna have to go with Madonna. She never fails to completely reinvent her self and most of the young pop artists today are following in her foot steps. Not to mention she has very innovative music videos and continues to raise the bar.

I'll agree with that but then follow it up with - PRESLEY
                                                                    LITTLE RICHARD
                                                                    BOB DYLAN
                                                                    BEATLES
                                                                    PINK FLOYD
                                                                    DJ KOOL HERC

In my personal opinion there are three that seem to go together and must be mentioned in the same breath! Each one of these bands helped to influence not only other music but as well as a lifestyle that goes "hand in hand" with their music. The thing that sets these bands apart from the rest is their ability to utilize each musicians strength to constantly push forward over the boundaries that "the masses" tend to put on music. When you analize it, every member of each of these bands are masters of there trade. What I can recommend for everyone to do is while listening to these bands......place yourself back in the time when this music first came out and think of what other music was out during that period. These bands are....Led Zeppelin.......Black Sabbath.......Iron Maiden.....!!!!!!

(Honorable Mention....The Police!!!!)

I'd think... Queen, Hendrix, Zeppelin, or Black Sabbath.

Like many have said its hard to pick just one, but i'll go ahead and throw my opinion out here. Honestly, for me its bands like MxPx, The Huntingtons, The Queers, The Ramones, and Blink 182 very influential. Because, not only are they some of my favorite bands, they are just bands that when i lisen to i feel i can relate and connect to easily. Plus, my love for pop punk songs helps too! Geeked [8-|]
