re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?
i listen to a lot of christian music because as a teenager it's hard to stand for what you believe in. this music reminds me of what i believe and no one can ever change that.

Wherever you go, I will let you down, but this lullaby still goes on.

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?
I like listening to Christian music because in general, the bands I listen to are awesome, but they all have a message they are trying to get across. It may be about Jesus or other Biblical figures, but it can also be about just how to live life which so many people need these days. The thing I can always look forward to in this genre is that the lyrics will be clean and not about sex or drugs. I listen to a lot of rock at times but sometimes I just want something I can enjoy and not worry about sexual innuendos.

To tell you the truth it's just because they're good artists.  Well atleast the ones I listen to are.  I just like that the artists I listen to have the same beliefs as me.  I mean, if there's a group I listen to that are athiests or jewish, i'll listen.  But I try to stay away from bands like Slayer, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson etc.  For example, underOATH is a great Christian band and they write songs about God.  Some of their lyrics aren't straight out but that's how I like 'em.

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?
I don't really listen to Christian music on purpose.  But the bands I do listen to, that happen to be Christian, I like mainly because they are good musicians/lyricists.  I find in the artists I listen to, even though I may not share their same beliefs, their message is usually universally uplifting regardless of what their personal beliefs are. Their ability to try and tackle some heavy subjects of what it means to be human is also something that I wish more artists would do.  So yea, I dont really listen to it for any belief, because personally I think Christianity and all organized religion is the biggest hoax ever, but a lof of the messages strike home whether you believe there is an almighty God or not.

I listen to different types of music for different reasons.  I listen to most Christian music because it points me to God.

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?

I listen to most all kinds of music although i tend to shun mainstream radio type. I prefer Christian music tho cuz it's got more depth and you can actually get something out of the lyrics and even out of the concerts.

Plus the Christian music scene has exploded and some of the best HxC bands are Christian; Underoath, Norma Jean, Haste the day, August Burns Red, As I Lay Dying, The Devil Wears Prada, Inhale Exhale, Gwen Stacy... The list goes on...

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?

First of all, I love this post...

Christian music does two things for me. One is it makes me feel great when I hear it. Christian music can bring two people together in a way that is very different from other genres because of the way that God works through these artists. A person can tell the difference between an artist inspired by the industry and one who is inspired by God.

The other thing that christian music does for me is it is the enlightenment I need to begin my day and it is the encouragement I need to continue through the day. When you work around people who are living their lives outside of the will of God, it's easy to fall into a trap and stray off of the path God has for you. Christian music helps to keep me encouraged and is the reminder I need that what I'm doing, as a Christian, is right.

So, while other genres may be inspiring, enlightening, or encouraging, Christian music can be all of these things not only for general life experience but can also keep a person on the path to righteousness.

I know I'm not the model Christian, but through Christian music, God speaks to me and keeps me on the right path. So, that's the reason why I listen to Christian music.

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?
Great thread!  I love listening to mostly (90%) Christian music, the rest is rock, classical, opera, or anything else that inspires me.  I am a born again Bible believing Christian (I believe in the Jesus Christ of the Bible).  Christian music reminds me daily of who I am in Jesus Christ and why we desperately need Him, the one and only Saviour for whom all the wrong we've committed against God is forgiven if we should freely accept Him.

" “By and large, Christians are the only people who gather together to sing.” You can, of course, find the odd exception. But the point remains: singing—not listening to music, but actually singing—is far more a part of the Christian’s life than it is of the unbeliever’s life.

It really shouldn’t be a surprise. We have the most to sing about: a Saviour whose love is so vast that He voluntarily endured the torment and shame of the cross for the sake of His enemies!"

I found this quote in a great article, the rest can be read on page 2 at: http://www.uplook.org/web/images/pdf/2008_01.pdf

I've been to both Christian and secular concerts, aside from the popular and favorite songs that everyone sings, at a Christian concert you're more likely to find the majority of the people singing most if not all songs.  We sometimes call it "praise and worship" because we praise and worship our Lord Jesus Christ for who he is and what he has done.

re: Why do you listen to "Christian" Music?

Christian music spans all genres, from metal to gospel, and while I'm not a fan of the pop/gospel stuff, I do love Christian metal. I listen to a lot of stuff from Solid State and Tooth & Nail Records (stuff like Underoath, Dead Poetic, Destroy the Runner, Cry of the Afflicted, etc) and even though it's Christian-oriented, it's still metal. I know that turns people off because they think metal can't be Christian, but it can be. There are some bands out there that are amazing (Destroy the Runner!) but they aren't getting the recognition they deserve. But I digress, I listen to Christian music because I like it! I also find that the lyrics are better overall and that they actually have meaning.

Here are some bands to check out btw, if anyone's interested:

As Cities Burn

August Burns Red

Cry of the Afflicted

Destroy the Runner

Haste the Day
