I agree, but for different reasons.  I am the over 50 crowd and love Gospel, new and old.  If I compare my XM playlist to the Zune available downloads there is no match.  I would also like to see better video podcast.

That's awesome about the website!  I've been trying to find some really good Christian music.  I hate all the "pop" stuff on the radio.  Its just everyone else trying to tell me what to listen to.   BTW love your tag!  I do like some of the pop music, but I get tired of the overplays.  Plus most of it just sounds the same as everything else.  I like stuff that sounds origional.

Did you even read his post and the following posts?

There has been zero animosity about Christian music preference. It is also his right to say that popular Christian radio and music isn't the sound he cares for and he would like to see the umbrella in which Christ-themed music that is accepted be expanded.

re: Am I the only one who thinks the selection sucks?

I'm gonna say NO, you're probably not the only one who thinks that the selection on the market place sucks.  But, what exactly is the point of the post?  On one hand you say the music can be found on the MP but on the other hand you don't seem to like the mainstream Christian music market.  Wouldn't it make all those bands you listed mainstream if they were promoted the way you're talking?  I don't take issue with the point of the post, I think you just want to be introduced to some bands that aren't pumped by Christian radio.  But, saying what's on the MP sucks is a little, well, not-so-christian if you get me.  Mainstream music is just that for a reason a majority of Christians find it inspiring.  I was curious about your taste in music so I looked up some of the lyrics for As Cities Burn, I've got to be honest I looked at the lyrics for 4 or 5 songs and didn't see anything of spiritual benefit to me.  One of the songs seemed bordering on blasphemy.  Now that is just my opinion if you see something in their music that is of spiritual benefit to you good, that should be the point.  PLEASE understand this is not any kind of attack on you, it's just a differing view point which is the point of forums in the first place.

I'm with you 100%.  The Christian radio station where I live plays NOTHING but P&W. (praise and worship) I'm more of a pop/rock person myself (hence, I love the Newsboys) and I totally agree. Shouldn't we have a little more variety?

PS: If you already haven't, definitely listen to

re: Am I the only one who thinks the selection sucks?

I gotta agree with the boss here. I've recently been getting into christian music (again) and, though I prefer gospel, I've enjoyed learning about other forms of christian music. The marketplace does have some of the music I have been looking for, but, for me, it's been difficult trying to find lesser known artists and/or less popular songs. My record store has been my best friend as far as finding music is concerned.

re: Am I the only one who thinks the selection sucks?

Finding the cutting edge of musical stylings in the christian music scene is hard.  Lets face it.  When these new stylings hit the streets, their purpose is usually to minister to a particular group of people first.  We all know some of the people that have been successful in that because they are now the greats in the contemporary christian music movement.  There is a growing and sortof underground christian hip-hop/r&b/rap scene growing in the Chicago area that has been successful in reaching that audience recently which we'll probably all hear about in a few years.  I've never been much for that type of music, but I heard some stuff like that on the radio on a late night Saturday program on a christian radio station here.  There are some good late-night programs on Shine 89.7 in Chicagoland that you can find some up and coming movements, though.

personaly, most of the place I get my mmusic from is from listening to it on radiou.  totally love that station!  it has hardcore, electric, hip hop, rock, pretty much everything by christian Artists I love.  Some people may say those are more of the main stream artists, but I like it.  In my area there also is the river, which plays bands like Chris Tomlin, Point of Grace, Mercy Me, Third Day, Avalon, Matthew West....need I say more?

While it may not be where we want it to be - it seems to improve regularly.
