I'm sure you all haven't forgotten.. but don't exclude Doris Day, or Frank Sinatra... in my opinion... they are the best... well mostley Doris.. but you know what I mean..

Bobby McFerrin -

I rediscovered him when I picked up one of his best of CDs. I totally forgot how talented that man is. His version of "A Night In Tunisia" with the Manhattan Transfer was outstanding. Oh, but if you want to hear one hell of a big band, check out "Slide Hampton's JazzMasters: Tribute to Dizzy" Great scott, that's fantastic stuff!

Carmel  - Joe Sample

Lambert Hendrix and Ross - The Manhattan Trasfer from the 1950s VERY slick stuff

Buddy Rich and Mel Torme - Together again for the 1st time.  The Blusette piece is wonderful

Next please -

I'd forgotten that one. Thanks. For something a little different try Slim Gaillard or Slam Stewart.

The Lester Young Trio. . . Lester Young, Nat King Cole & Buddy Rich. . . Simply amazing

For that matter Does anyone know if Verve has ever released a complete retrospective or anything of the sort???  The single albums are amazing, but there was so much talent on that label.   I would love to see a box set of the "cross pollenation" of artists that were on the label.

Just a few people playing together for the sake of the "forgotten" thread:

Lester Young/Nat King Cole/Buddy Rich

Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong

Dizzy Gillespie/Charlie Parker/Curly Russell/Thelonious Monk/Buddy Rich

Not to mention everyone that worked with Duke Ellington, Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, and so many more. . .

Take a look over at emusic.com, they have a whole set of anthologies, a VERY good collection of Tatum, and Bird/Dizzy.

A couple of very intimate collaborations:

Archie Shepp & Mal Waldron: "Left Alone Revisted: A Tribute to Billy Holiday". Shepp's broken sax tears at your heart.

Also:

Duke Ellington and Ray Brown "This One's For Blanton". This one is a tribute to Jimmy Blanton. Very elegant.

They are both available in the Zune Marketplace.
