re: Conncecting the Zune HD to a browser-based login Internet
Hello, my name is Derrick Purcell. I am a college student at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan and I am pretty much having the same trouble that everyone else is having in terms of not being able to connect my Zune HD to my university campus network.

I completely understand the fact that the Zune Team cannot give us an exact date on when the firmware update will be available to solve this pressing issue, but I just thought that I help Zune out by listing the school that I attend in an attempt to resolve this matter.

Thank you for your time.

re: Conncecting the Zune HD to a browser-based login Internet
Thanks for all the great information in this thread.   I was researching the issue for a blog post as I was recently frustrated by the problem.

I put all the info in the post, so please feel free to spread the word to get more awareness of the issue:

I am very surprised they shipped without this feature considering their core audience would be many students on college campuses these days.

re: Conncecting the Zune HD to a browser-based login Internet
I'm at Wayne State university in Detroit Michigan.  I believe they use wpa2 encryption.  The thing is sometimes i can connect and other times i cant.  I think it depends on the building I'm in.  I think they might use older encryption methods in some of the buildings.   I hope this gets fixed because it feels like i have a Zune 30 with an updated screen.

re: Connecting the Zune HD to a browser-based login Internet/WPA/WPA2 Enterprise Support
same problem for me, i go to University of Northern Iowa and the web browser was one of the large reasons why i purchased this.

my problem is that i need a user id and password to log in and zune dosn't support that yet.

re: Conncecting the Zune HD to a browser-based login Internet
I am having a similar problem at Santa Clara University. The security setting for the wireless connection apparently is WPA2 Personal. It has a browser based login that I cannot access because it simply displays the message "Can't load the page you requested." Hopefully this helps you in solving the problem, as I spent 300+ dollars on this device and I expect to be able to use it at the place I spend 12-15 hours of every day.

Thanks.

because listening to music, playing goo splat or what ever you want. watching a movie, or listening to radio is not "using" the device. i am affected by this as well living on a college campus. but basically saying you cant use your device is not a good statement.

It's now been one month since i made this post. I don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing that this post has been at or very near the top of this forum for the month. It's a good thing that this issue is in the spotlight. But it's a bad thing that this issue still has not been met with a resolution.

Was that really necessary? I think it is pretty clear what I meant. I cannot use the internet to check my email, check sports updates, or do anything else internet related which is a major feature of the device. I also cannot dowload music with zune pass on campus, which is really the only reliable network available to me, and the only reason I chose this device over the alternatives. So yes I can "use it" but what I mean is I cannot use the features that make it worth 300 dollars. Happy now?

...and by the way the radio also doesn't get reception at the campus library and gym (i.e. the only two places where I would really need it).

i do not know about you, but i bought the device for the nice interface, and so i could listen to music and watch movies on a very nice screen. internet and apps are bonuses to me. my phone has internet on it, and my laptop, and the computer labs in basically every building also have internet. i would like to be able to get on the internet on campus on my zune, but i still love it without this. when it does get fixed great, but i am happy with the device regardless.
