re: ZUNE HD 16 and 32 GB NOW AVAILABLE? ARE YOU SERIOUS?
I have to agree with the "32gb is enough" argument. I had a 30gb with 3200+ plus, 8-16 pictures, and 4 games on it and STILL hadn't filled it up. I now have the 32gb HD with 3260 songs, 1 video, all the games and apps out ATM, and 10 pictures and I'm just over 16.05gb. Some things may get deleted here and there but I still have more than enough space for my needs.

But your needs are not indicative of everyone else. I have 1TB of lossless audio my current zune is a zune30 with a 100GB hard drive modded in to it. I already have no space so 32GB would not be an option. Add the fact they want you to have games, APPS and HD movies and it's pretty silly to expect us to go from 80, 100,120 GB down the 32 GB.

If you have to empty space on a device then no harm is done to you, you can still use the device how ever you want, if there is to little space for the rest of us then we have to compromise and adjust how we use the device. With a new option like HD video if we want to use that at all we would have to seriously cut our audio content even more.

How can I go from 100GB to 32GB of just Audio and even think about using the HD video feature where an HD movie compressed in WMV would be around 2-4 GB a piece?

by getting rid of the 70% of that audio which you don't listen to?

I listen to it all, and now with Smart DJ I listen to more than 100% of it (the songs not in my collection + some perfect tracks that get added to the collection)

that would be hours and hours....no more like days and days of constant listening.  I suspect you don't do that, and also that the time between syncs (at least for charging!) is less than the amount of time the music would take.  So, your options are to figure out a different (dynamic) sync strategy, or wait for a bigger HD, or stick with your current zune...  I'd bet if you think about your listening habits, you could come up with some autoplaylists that you could sync...and manipulate the song content by how they auto-refresh.  It may not be perfect, but if you really want an HD now, it might be 'good enough.'

Just thought I'd chime in on this thread...again.

While I don't have as much music as some others (I've got about 630 albums) I need to be able to access almost all of them regularly.  I'm a music pastor, and while I have my own personal tastes, I also need to carry music with me on the go for other reasons.  I'm often selecting songs we'll be playing at church that I don't listen to frequently, but need to have at the ready.  Additionally, carrying video clips around takes up valuable real estate quickly.

On the other hand, 32gb may (and I emphasize "may") work for me.  But I would have to spend a substantial amount of time going through my library figuring out what songs to keep and which ones to get rid of, and I would constantly be updating it and adding music to listen to thanks to the Zune Pass.  For these reasons, I haven't yet pulled the trigger on a 32gb device as I'm not yet convinced it will fully meet my needs.  A 64gb device on the other hand would work wonders.

If/When such a device is available, depending on pricing, I'll likely order it day 1.  Until then, I'll just wait patiently, as I'm pretty sure MS will release a 64gb device by the Holidays.

You've made some good points here and I agree with you in defense of others who prefer a higher capacity Zune HD player compared to what is currently available.  As you've mentioned, we all have different needs and requirements.  So, like me and others, we'll have to wait and see.

BrickHorse,

I don’t think it’s fair to tell someone to get rid of their songs.  It’s akin to telling someone to get rid of their 1929 Bugatti because it has taken up space in their garage.

Haven’t you heard of the old saying: One man’s trash is another man’s treasure?

You have much to learn my Padawan.

I realize my opinion/needs are not indicative of every single zune owner out there. My point was simply that I had enough space on my 30 and that for me (and any others like me) that 32 is fine for now. Also, you don't have to have the games, app, or HD movies on it as well. Those are optional. From what I hear and see, flash memory isn't cheap. If they made a 120gb version it would probably run us over 500 bucks. And just out of curiousity, if you have 1TB of audio, are you saying you have every song ever made? Why would you have so many songs? Going through the now playing list would be such a chore.

Correct, my play-style is such that at the drop of a hat any one could be the only one that can fit my mood.

I drive over 25,000 miles a year and my Soungate CORE makes the battery a great deal less of a factor in the equation.  At my at work and home, desks I have the Zune software and Dock/Sync Cables, so battery doesn't matter there, the software isn't as quick as my Zune so when working the devices do the heavy work. My Zune HD seems more friendly to those glancing looks and inputs (like the GPS built into the car) right now with just my podcasts and the album I use when the HD is on the alarm clock (plus three short SmartDJ playlists) the device is full.

I only have 17,000 songs on the 120 and it wont hold any of my podcasts or videos or pictures, so what I really need is a Zune HD 256 so I can just carry one Zune and not have to shuffle back and forth.

If the phone rumors are true, things jump another notch, unless they also include expandable memory.  My Windows phone is only doing about 5 GB of heavy lifting right now. (always account for more though, I remember when I filled my first hard drive that was all mine and not shared, a sad day)
