re: Re: re: zune for mac????
Yeah, you do have to pay for windows, which is why the bootcamp solution isn't favorable. Plus, I don't want to install windows on my iMac just to use the zune.

@CT2049
Thank you for clarifying. It would wonderful if things were as simple as that though. :(

Don't you still have to pay for a copy of windows once you get bootcamp?

There should be a program specifically for the mac. This is only losing customers.
Yes, you do have to get a copy of windows.
And, having no MAC OS version may lose a few customers, but probably not too many.  In any event, when MS decides the next biggest opportunity is to sell Zunes to MAC users, they'll do it.  In the meantime, I think expanding the zune marketplace internationally is the biggest thing they could do to take a chunk of market away from Apple.

re: Re: re: zune for mac????
just adding my 2 cents. I have had my Zune since the beginning of time. :) I love it. However since then I have purchased a Mac for my on the go computer.. I was heartbroken to find that I can not run/manage/purchase more music through my Zune software on my Mac. Come on Microsoft > you have the superior product with the Zune, just let everyone know by allowing Mac to work with it. :)

What are you talking about, the anti-trust agreements have nothing to do with dual booting. Once you buy a copy of Windows (other than a OEM version, those are tied to just the one machine) you can load it on anything you want, including Apple computers. It is OS X that is illegal to run on anything other than an Apple computer.

@Tubster123, no, .NET Framework is a proprietary MS technology and anything like it is not avalible on any other system. Until Zune is no longer dependant on .NET Framework (which is pretty much impossible, as it's built ground up using it) and the Windows Media Player Engine, it simply will *NOT* work on Mac OS. That simple. Why this thread is still alive I don't understand.

Mono is the open source cross platform version of the .NET framework. .NET is not proprietary as is is a standard ratified by ECMA and ISO, hence why Mono even exists. There are libraries Microsoft has made for .NET that only work on windows, these libraries are in the System.Windows.* namespace. This is why Microsoft's implementation of .NET doesn't run on Mac or Linux. The libraries, specifically in this case the media codec and Window Media Framework, are Windows only libraries. Please don't spread misinformation.

My point still stands that .NET Framework doesn't work on Mac OS.

@Tubster123

I can mimic MS' reaction perfectly, "Boo hoo, cry me a river, then don't buy our competetors product." Wishing that Zune would be made for Mac OS is like hoping the US federal deficit will vanish overnight, it won't happen. You don't have to pay for Windows, just download the Windows 7 RC, free, works for a year, better than XP or Vista, problem solved. Over that year that Win7 works, save up some money and buy it when it's released. Zune works fine on Win7, and Win7 works fine on a Mac.

The Zune is a good machine, so is the iPod, so is a toaster, what's your point? Zune 120.

it's bad for business. Pretty soon i'm going to have to get an ipod i need to sync new songs and soon i wont have windows. I'd rather have a mac than windows. And a zune over an ipod. but music is music. Make them compatible.

re: zune for mac????
zune working on mac-that market is way too small and definitely not worth the profit for Microsoft to invest the cash in.  Most of us bought the zune before we switched over to Mac.  if we don't figure it out on our own (which there are plenty of resources out there, whether they cost money or not) i am guessing we were written off as a loss anyway to microsoft since we ditched the windows os anyway...

I would prefer microsoft invest in the HD zune or doing something about the obvious car adaptor issue.  I just bought a car today with no tape deck and a freaking built in ipod adapter-boo.  i hate the fm option (they suck!) and i am not going to open up my new cars radio  for an mp3 player.  still  not switching to ipods.

re: zune for mac????
I have just purchased my MAC, and unfortunately I can not get the zune software onto it, however I can connect it and put all my songs onto it. But I love this mac and can never go back to a regular pc, however my music player i will always stick with the zune. I have tried a couple ipods but never happy with them so i finally got the zune instead. Is there any software that will enable me to connect my zune to this wonderful mac and be able to transfer all my music back and forth? thanks for any help yous guys.

http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/features.html#c25450

vm fusion software license and a microsoft os license ( I use xp so i can't speak to vista).

VM fusion will pretty much walk you through the mirosoft software and license install too so it is pretty easy (well, it seems like i remember it being it was easy-but it was a year ago so I might just be remembering the good and forgetting the bad).

I am pretty happy with my current zune on the MAC....although I did have to buy something else after buying a new freaking car because it came iPod ready; it was just a stereo plug.

ooh-and no clue how you get around no microsoft license...it's a microsoft product ( probably running it through x-box live another, microsoft purchased product, if you have one,  and your tv...I'm definately doing it as soon as find that stinking x-box i shoved in the basement and replaced with the wii and wii fit)

re: zune for mac????
This really is a stupid, immature move on Microsoft's part.  Think of friendships on the elementary school playground.  One kid (us, as consumers) is enticed over to a cooler friend who has more fun (mac, haha), but the old friend (microsoft) decides to hold out on the invitation to his birthday party unless he never goes over to that new friend.  I think that microsoft is incorrectly afraid that allowing mac users to use zunes will somehow detract from the overall appeal of PCs.  The zune is a quality product, and a lot of people would be more open to it instead of openly ridiculing it if they had a chance to use the thing at all.  Well, that's my piece.

re: Re: re: zune for mac????
Alternatively, they could just do both like any big company the likes of Microsoft would be inclined to. I know they have some sort of grand-master-plan, but it doesn't seem to have worked all too well so far. I'm in the market for a new computer and if I bought/owned a Mac I'd hate to be forced to only sync my Zune via Windows and not my native OS. It's a huge pain.

You're right they wouldn't gain all too many customers by having an OS X version, but I think that's more to do with a sever lack of advertising on the part of their players and the software in general, an Apple's continued and very-effective marketing of their players an the Apple ecosystem. The Zune brand is hardly out in the open, although that'll be happening this Fall (hopefully?).

Most people that have a Mac mostly like Apple overall, so I think they will stick with the ipod (big mistake)
That's dumb.
I own a 120 GB Zune and would not trade it for the world.
I ADORE my Zune, it is 10 times better than anything like the iPods and iPod Touches.
However, I am a huge Apple fan and own a Macbook myself.
I think it's much better than any Window's run system that I have had in the past and would definitely not trade it in either.
Zune for the Mac would be a dream come true for me.
