WOW, No Zune HD in Canada????!!!!!

And the Software. ITunes already has made a iTunes Canada where we can buy, videos, songs, podcast est. but Zune has still not given Canadians anything but podcast which after the new software update you can no longer add new podcast to your collection. In the word of AVGN "what were they thinking" they could at least make an official statement like "we are shooting towards a holiday release for Canada blah blah blah but they don’t say ***.

 

Zune isn't popular in Canada, that's one of the reasons it's not here. The other major reason being getting the Zune pass over here, which is presumably the fault of record labels who are not fond of the way Zune Pass works or something like that.

We will be getting a simple version of marketplace later this fall (November I think) that will definately include videos, but we won't get music. Forunately iTunes music purchases will work on the Zune but they don't have a subscription based service which is a shame. I bet when we get videos we will also get access to podcasts, games and apps.

90% of the population lives by the border.  I just hopped the border and got one (I phoned BestBuy in Bellingham to make sure they had one in stock).  I'm loving it.  It'll come to Canada soon, but the thing is they are selling out in the US so they'd probably have problems keeping up with the additional demand anyway.  They do the same thing with Gaming consoles and role them out regionally and stagger the releases, it's so they can ramp up production in the factories.

Does it work alright in Canada? Some of us have yet to get one and have questions that are still unanswered until someone from Canada who has one can help us out. Like, besides HD radio and music marketplace (Zune Pass too), are there any other limitations for using it in Canada?

The Zune HD works perfectly fine in Canada.  you may not have a marketplace because Microsoft only bends over to kiss the *** of Americans.  You can load in your own content from their party sources and you can even pick up some U.S. HD radio stations depending on where you are located in Canada.  When in Toronto, I can get various New York stations with no issues at all. 

That's good to hear. I actualy do live near the US so I bet I could get some HD radio stations.

As far as news goes, for those still looking for any news of the hardware coming to Canada, I just read this article and an indie game developer for a game on Xbox Live said this about the Zune HD:

“The Zune HD isn’t out yet in Canada or Europe”, says Mr. Radish. “…but it will be soon.”

That's where Microsoft needs to be more clear.  When they say Canada, they mean the province of British Columbia only.

How did you get that? And besides, even if it was only in BC for some strange reason, I'd still be happy because I can easily get one from BC. Probably not as easy as crossing the border and buying one, but I'd prefer getting it in Canada especially if they let us order through Zune Originals.

Okay, to update I tried contacting that game company for details... they didn't give me an actual answer.

Anyways here's more hints, for those who haven't lost hope. Apparently the booklet that comes with the Zune HD has info on warranty in Canada. Also, there's a new firmware update out and I guess there's a few people that were having trouble updating it. A solution was to switch location settings on your PC to Canada to update and then change back. Those probably don't mean anything special, but the location thing is kind of weird lol.

Ok , so I was reding a russian article on zune hd today(nov 16). And basically what it says(refering to Financial Times) is that nicrosoft wasnt planning to release the zune outside of the US this year, but the were expecting it to occupy the second place in the market, now it is only forth. So the article says that 18 new countries will see the ZHD arriving by the end of 2009. Still Hoping ;) 

Kinda wrong. Microsoft said when they were first launching the Zune that they saw it being number 2 behind Apple. Yah, that happened....

And no, the Zune brand (so far, just video content) is coming to 18 countries tomorrow over Xbox Live. There's still no word on devices appearing outside the US but after the update tomorrow I'd say there's a better chance.

I am thinking about going down to the states and pick one up.Will it work with out any issues in canada.
