Zune freezes during any type of sync

My Zune freezes at a random percentage (as in, it isn't the song's fault) when I try to sync it. Also, I've been trying to give it the new update but halfway through I always get told that my Zune got disconnected. I have a Zune 80.

Help?

Mine has been doing this as well. Beginning to look like I need a new Zune. I have tried 2 PCs (one desktop and one laptop), 2 operating systems (Vista and Windows 7), 2 cables, and wireless sync. Nothing works. I even went back to the 3.1 software from the 4.0. And the 3.1 firmware from the 3.2 firmware. Nothing.

I too have the same problem, this makes me mad because it started happening AFTER I upgraded to the new firmware. Microsoft needs to step up and fix issues with these devices. I don't know if this has happened to any of you but, my zune likes to delete songs. It infuriates me to look through my albums and see random songs missing. If anyone knows why zunes freeze with a random percentage, please help us. If I keep getting these problems, I'm going back to i-Pods; seriously.

ive yet to have a total failure, but i often have this same problem.  i usually cut off power to my computer, usually my computer is runnin hella slow and it causes the zune to freeze.  ive even let it go for three hours once, is was stuck.  after i cut power i umplug zune and do a reboot on it.  reboot my puter, it asks to run a scan sometimes and the vista os comes back and i start over and it will usually work.  sometimes it takes a couple of times.

whats weird is this method is how i got the z4 update downloaded, it froze in the middle, twice.  its the method the z4 update was... updated, it stopped in the middle, three times.  when i finally got z4 to work, after 3 days.  i tried to update my player, and that froze in the middle too.  im so frustrated kuz i love my zune sooooo much.....  very sad for u compa i hope zune folks notice you!!!  gritz

This is a post i saw on a different forum. It's literally word for word what is happening to my 120gb black zune. i have never ever dropped this thing or anything:

"A week ago my zune which worked fine suddenly started showing that probably 75% of my songs were missing or cannot be played. After discovering a ton were missing and rather then hunting them down, I deleted everything and attempted to add the songs back. Adding a few songs and letting it finish, then disconnecting the zune, it would work fine. If you add more then a dozen or so songs, the sync will freeze, always at random %s that are never the same amount, and that is the end of it. The software does not recognize or do anything else with it, disconnecting does nothing, and you need to do a soft reset, at which point loses any songs that were synced during the freeze, or even in previous syncs if you had not disconnected the zune from the computer.

It also freezes while shuffling to the next song several times a day, with a soft reset being the only fix. The songs however that I manage to slowly add back will all play. My library is really large so adding a dozen at a time is not an option...besides the whole freezing a few times a day being a problem too.

It's still under warranty. I've done a hard reset with the older firmware and then did a hard reset today with the new firmware that came out. Nothing fixes the problem. The zune software on the computer was also different for either hard resets and that didn't fix a thing."

I too have tried soft reboots, hard reboots, erased all content, reinstalled firmware, Nada. At this point it syncs some songs then stops, and on the zune itself, the songs dont play. it's a brick at this point.

I just tried to sync my 8 gb zune today for the first time in a couple of months and I'm having the same issues.  It froze at 88%, 87%, 99%,98% etc.  This sucks.

I have a 30GB Zune.  My problem started 2 days ago, 10-27.  After listening to it all day at work (with no problems), I came home, got ready to take a run, grabbed my Zune and it cut out 30 seconds into a song.  Then it started again.  Then stopped and so on.  I then synced it back up, dumped all the music, and now it seems the only album I can get to back on it is an one I downloaded last night, on 10-28.  After the problem began.  Does this mean its a software issue?  Were there updates this week?

I have an 80 and it locks up after loading about 4 gb, up to that point it does fine.  Songs load fine and play fine.  Load that last album and all locks up.  That appears to point to a software issue where it only allows a limited amount of storage.  It is almost like the software is storing the songs in a cache, on board memory or something instead of on the HD.  This woud explain the song lose and some of the other issues.  No memory to run the rest of the software etc. so it just freezes.

I thought the forums were to recieve help on this issue, or on any issue. 

I too have this problem on a constant basis.  Sometimes the issue resolves itself and I can upload all my music onto it but recently it freezes up usually between 1 - 20% then quits on me and it takes up space on the Zune memory even if the song isn't there - I think it's reserving memory for when that song syncs.  But when I try again even after a reboot, it won't sync.  I don't know, I might buy an iPod in the future if this problem isn't resolved.  It happened when I first bought the 80gb back in July 2008. 

I've reinstalled both the software (64-bit Vista) and firmware a million times now and no change.
