Petition!!! Mac/Linux Zune client
I don't know about you, but i'm not exactly fond of windows vista anymore.  Considering that this will come out more than a month before windows 7, do you guys agree that we need to be able to use Zune on a Mac or Linux(i.e. Ubuntu).  If so get this page up to 90-odd pages and maybe, just maybe they'll pay attention to us.  Although Microsoft is trying to rule the world so maybe this will never happen.  Just sign below!!!!!!!

Hmm, I must say, a Linux client would be nice.  Doubt it'll ever happen... but it would be nice.

re: Petition!!! Mac/Linux Zune client

Mac marketshare is too small, and the zune marketshare is also small. The number of mac users wanting a zune is tiny - mainly because they have been brainwashed by Apple to hate Microsoft and to buy only Apple products.  Obviously theres a decent number of mac users who are open to other products but unfortuantely if you watch any Apple commercial you can see why most Mac users think of any Microsoft product as being garbage.  There's justnot enough mac users interested in zune to warrant spending time on making a client for them.  Just use bootcamp,  Apple makes it a big deal in their commercials so it obviously is a solution..???

As for linux users, same scenario - anti-MS and an even smaller marketshare; most linux users arent interested in supporting Microsoft products.

I have several friends who use Macs. One actually bought Parallels just so he could use the Zune software without having to reboot into Windows. Having a mac client would be a great move.

agree i have both a iMac and PC and basically bought the make to sync with my iPhone and use my Zune HD on my PC.  I have been thinkg about converting my PC to a media Center or DVR but would be stuck without a Mac client.  Not to mention that one of xbox's own (Major Nelson) uses a Mac and Zune.

re: Petition!!! Mac/Linux Zune client

plus theres the fact that if they did that to mac and or linux aside from the fact that they fight fierce competitions in OS wars all the time and pretty much hate each other

but they would haveto port Directx 9 apis over too which is why games work on windows and not other os's of course games could be made in opengl but few do that.

and all the time and money it would take plus zune software alone would take about 2 or 3 gbs instead of about 200 megs

theres a whole bunch of *** that would have to be re done that could take years its just not an option and never has been

re: Petition!!! Mac/Linux Zune client
so why exactly is there a iTunes for Windows.  Using your logic people who have an iPod should be stuck with a Mac, not that bad of an idea, but yet here we are with iTunes for Windows.  So shouldn't it be the same way with zune on mac.  It would increase their marketshare, a little.

re: Petition!!! Mac/Linux Zune client

Windows has 90% + of the computer marketshare,  it would have been the death of Apple if they never made a Windows version of iTunes.  They needed to expand their customer base to where MOST people are - which is on Windows PC'S not mac's.  Macs are only around 7% of the marketshare of computer users.  Apple was about to go bankrupt and the ipod saved their company; without Windows users Apple would have been dead back in 1998.  Microsoft doesn't need Apple customers, theres just not enough of them willing to try a Microsoft product.

Microsoft is simply targeting the huge base of Windows computers; why focus on a small minority of mac users that are for the most part hostile towards any Microsoft product?  Not worth it.

Plus they need to write Windows Media (encoder/decoder), entire DRM platform (audio layer, video layer, recording) and then start working on the Zune client software.  It's easily over a year of work.  You are asking them to divert many of their developers over to work on a Mac version when they could be using those developers making the Zune software for Windows much better with more features.

Use bootcamp or parallels; or buy an ipod touch.  The touch is a really great device.  I had one and it worked well with my mac mini.  Use what works good for your system.

re: Petition!!! Mac/Linux Zune client
well unfortunately you don't understand my point.  My point is cover 100%, Microsoft, not just the 93% or what ever it is that have Windows.  It'd be like in school going into a test and shooting for a 90%, if my parents taught me anything(i'm still learning), they taught me don't shoot for mediocrity, sorry to use a cheesey quote, "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll end up among the stars."  Microsoft, if you're listening please please please, make a Mac Client, I know of several mac owners who want a zune but can't because they don't have a PC.  I know you have the developers to do so.  You are the largest software developer for Mac anyways.

Beyond a Mac/Linux client, the Zune should just mount like any other storage device and allow you to drag-and-drop files in any OS.  This *requiring* a program to transfer files is stupid!

re: Petition!!! Mac/Linux Zune client
Its funny how people ask for a port to Mac. Mac users say they would use a Zune but they won't. It would be a waste of money for Microsoft to bother with this. Just look at what the Applefanboys are saying all over the internet about the HD right now. Look at the cnet review from cnet's apple freak Donald Bell. He actually said even though the HD is nice "people don't like music anymore" and only want to check email and play with apps so the itouch is better. Yeah i guess thats why people are screaming for larger capacity devices, for checking email and apps. I'm sure Microsoft is hearing all this crap and would never port Zune over to Apple. I myself hope they never do. All Zune has ever got since day one is trashed by Apple fans and the so called unbiased tech.sites.
