How do you like the podcast support in the Zune software?

Question: How do you like the podcast support in the Zune software?  Is there anything you would change?

re: How do you like the podcast support in the Zune software?
I like it a lot.  I would though, add one thing.  I travel for work a lot, and guest sync to my corporate laptop when I'm on the road.  I would like to see an 'auto-podcast-sync' option added for guest sync'ing relationships.  I subscribe to 30 or 35 podcasts, and it would be nice to be able to connect the zune, and have them automagically update, including downloading new episodes and removing played episodes, as per the series settings.  (It would be nice if the series settings traveled with the device, but it wouldn't be terrible to set them up again on the guest linked laptop...)

And, an 'off-topic' extra bonus:  I'd love to see Microsoft create some video podcast 'zune tutorials' and ship them on the zunes for new users.  Topics like setting up manual sync, sync groups, how to add podcast feeds for podcasts not yet in the marketplace, how to use credits for 'keep 10' on the Zune Pass...and I'm sure there are other good ones, too.

Ah... so like a subscription that follows you everywhere rather than a rule that is tied to one PC?

Exactly- but for podcasts only...music lives on the home PC and the zune stays 'guest sync'd' to the corporate laptop.   And, that reminds me of one other requirement... many corporate laptops bypass Windows Update and go with WSUS instead.  The normal zune installer fails when it can't get to windows update...does the big honkin' (370MB) zune install package bypass the need to connect to windows update?

Nope.  The big install package doesn't need to connect to Windows Update.  You can download it and install offline.

It would be nice to have options to keep episodes for # days in the collection. (= You could choose # of episodes or # of days.)
Some podcasts provide multiple episodes a day/at a time; so I think this option is useful/helpful.

I haven't run into that...but that's a great idea!

I know the Coast-to-Coast AM podcast releases their daily radio show as four daily podcast episodes.  Do you know other series that do the same?

Yes, I know some and they are all in the Marketplace:
"NewsHour with Jim Lehrer Podcast  PBS" releases 2-5 episodes every weekday.
"NPR Science Friday Podcast" releases 3-7 episodes every Friday.
And I think ABC's "Nightline" releases a few episodes every weekday (though I'm not subscribing it).

re: How do you like the podcast support in the Zune software?

I took a look at this yesterday and the issue is that multiple ITEM elements are being added to the RSS feeds with identical PUBDATE values.  If the podcast producers increment the PUBDATE by a second for each ITEM in the sequence, we would display them in the correct order.  Technically, the RSS specification doesn’t dictate the order of the ITEM elements in a feed.  Therefore, it’s important for RSS authors to be mindful of these timestamps.  I’m not sure if there is anything we can really do on our end.

Well, I don't really have any "problems" here.
What I'm saying is I'd like to keep those episodes for a certain number of days. Since I don't know how many episodes they would release at a time, I think the option to keep them for # days would be useful.

Oops.  I was off in my own little world when I was talking about order of episodes and pubdates...

Back to the feature suggestions - what would the settings dialog with both # of episodes and # of days look like?
