Hardcore.
Today's hardcore is well away from it's punk roots and Hardcore should have it's own sub-genre thread. Agree or disagree?

I open my wallet and it's full of blood.

re: Hardcore.
Hardcore should definitely not belong to the punk/ska group whatsoever.

re: Hardcore.

Very agreed.

Hardcore--------------------------------------------------Punk

Two differnt things.

Music is life. So live a fun one, listen to ska.
Punk rock is my religion.

re: Hardcore.

For sure. They have an easy listening and a seasonal music thread. They were obviously trying really hard to think of all POSSIBLE sub-genres that people would want to talk about. Hardcore shouldn't have to share.

Incidentally, who the eff wants to talk about seasonal music?

Re: Hardcore.
I'm not sure what your guys are classifying as hardcore, but it certainly still has strong roots in punk, especially when it comes to touring ethics and DIY mentality.

You're kidding, right?  Cloak/Dagger, Paint It Black, and *** Up would like to have a word with you about their punk roots.

But tonight I walk into a place where bar girls fade like tropical birds.

re: Hardcore.
I'm not going to get into if hardcore is punk or vice versa because there are strong cases for both. However..
I think there are enough influential bands that started the scene and enough up and coming hardcore bands to def. make a case for zune to make its own sub category. As it stands right now the sub categories are to broad.

re: Hardcore.
Punk roots don't have anything to do with it really, if we're left classifying genres by their roots then it'd all break down into just R&B and Classical.

When the phrase Hardcore was uttered back in the 80's it was easy to see that there was a HUGE difference between Punk and Hardcore scenes.  Having been a teenager back then and into Hardcore heavily, the music and kids were more aggressive and not much into politics like the Punks were.  Hardcore was more about local social issues than world issues and Punks were mostly touting Peace & Anarchy as the Hardcores were shouting Let's Fight.  This wasn't always the case but you'd be stretching it if you thought Hardcore and Punk were the same thing.

I can admit to having a hasty and reactionary post.  For the sake of argument, what 80's bands would you be classifying under hardcore, and which under punk?  Just some examples.

re: Hardcore.
Hardcore was pretty short lived, I think it was the 80 - 86 era of bands and it really only stood to show a difference between earlier Punk bands and the new more aggressive music.  Like I said it was more of a difference in attitude than anything else but a couple of quick examples would be Agnostic Front, Bad Brains, Cro-Mags, Warzone, SS Decontrol were all Hardcore bands.  Crass, X, The Germs, Iggy Pop and DK would all be considered Punk.

re: Hardcore.
Hardcore is still considered a subgenre of punk, ergo it can stay in the punk subforum.

There is more to hardcore than NYHC.  And personally I'd feel like the Bad Brains belong under punk, considering the profound effect their existence had on DC punk.
