re: j-pop, j-rock
I'm not sure if j-pop and j-rock qualify as "world music" - it's just pop/rock. But as far as j-pop goes, I'd suggest Koda Kumi, especially if you can get your hands on her music videos. She's a great dancer. If you're not limiting yourself to Japanese stuff, there's a great k-pop singer / performer Rain a.k.a. Bi. Again - his music videos are really great. For c-pop I'd go with Jolin Tsai. Unfortunately since there's no support for hanzi / kanji and hangul it's pretty hard to get it right on your Zune. But it's worth the effort. :)

re: j-pop, j-rock

J-rock is what I listen to mostly, never really had a taste for J-pop:

*Dir en Grey
*Malice Mizer
*Luna Sea
*X-Japan
*L'arc~en~ciel (but they're bordering on pop)
*Due' Le Quartz
*Kagrra
*MUCC

are the standards

My personal favourites are:

*Plastic Tree
*Guniw Tools
*Miyavi
*Schwarz Stein (and both Kaya and Hora's solo projects)
*Maximum the Hormone
*D

Hope that helps some?

"Midori" can't get my hands on any of her songs except the free one but check her out on youtube she's a freak! Kaela Kimura is my second suggestion.
