PETITION: Add WMP Support!
With all the issues people are having, I think its time MS did something proactive to fix the situation. The new software is a complete mess and there is no way a fix can be made quick enough to squash the fundamental issues with it.

Of these issues, the most prominent are:
  • Meta-tags being read incorrectly
  • Album art being mixed up / used for incorrect albums (and artists!)
  • Removal of Auto-Playlists
  • Removal of rating system (the heart system isn't a rating system so much as flagging renamed)
  • Removal of meta-edting and editing multiple entries at the same time
  • Index/Smart searching replaced with warped useless timewasting BS
  • Clututered interface
  • Song sorting is completely flawed

Now you already know what I'm suggesting: ALLOW ZUNE SYNCING WITH WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER

Allowing WMP support for Zune would solve all of our problems. Old Zune software was just a re-skinned WIMP anyway. WMP is an integral part of Windows (specifically Vista) and if Microsoft wants integration of their media players, xboxs, and pc's then the best solution would be to bring them together with a unified piece of software.

Unlock the syncing in WMP and we can all live a happy life and enjoy our Zunes. Not saying not to keep working on the software, but allowing an alternative is definitely required to make the consumer base happy.

Sign/Bump if you agree. Let MS see what we want. A solution to all the problems of the new Zune lameware.

Since the product released, I've wanted this.... My guess is that it has to do with antitrust/monopoly issues.

count me in on this. isn't MICROSOFT windows media player a MICROSOFT product? why in the world would microsoft make a COMPETING PRODUCT to THEIR OWN SOFTWARE? Integrating a MICROSOFT player with EXISTING microsoft software seems like a NO BRAINER to me...

re: PETITION: Add WMP Support!
I've always wondered why this wasn't the case to begin with, but I let it go because ZMP had more or less all of WMP's features. This "update" has made it a completely inadequate media player.

If MS hasn't said anything specific about fixing the bugs and ridiculous inadequacies of the Zune 2 software by the time I get my end-of-year bonus, I am going to seriously consider jumping ship to another media player.

i agree WMP is much much better than the zune software even though the only problem i have is the drag and drop.  Another problem I have is the size of the workspace it is too small probably because the text is big.  It's really hard to manipulate and find my songs.  It would make it much better if it had drag and drop

I don't expect anything good to come from the Zune team.
I don't expect any fixes from them, especially not quick fixes.
I expect them to keep screwing up over and over.
Cuz that's what they always do.
I give up on them. They are hopeless jerks.
They are probably not even paying attention to us now.

re: PETITION: Add WMP Support!

I don't necessarily want compatibility between WMP and Zune. Honestly I was hoping with 2.0 I'd be able to turn off WMP (which I've been using) and replace it with the new Zune software. I think the Zune software is far better in a lot of ways - the interface is nicer, it has better functionality (l like the new ratings system for example), and I love the new now playing screen - it looks really nice compared to WMP's plugins. Zune is more iTunes'ish, which I like. WMP has always felt more like a generic player, where as Zune is more targeted at the music aficionados’ of the world.

However, there is one huge problem with the Zune and that the fact that it doesn't integrate with windows the way WMP does. I can't seem to get streaming working at all between computers, the zune sharing service fails to show up in networking correctly, double clicking on the service fails to launch the zune software, and the media options in the network sharing service still apply to wmp, not the new (default) zune player.

If Microsoft could get this stuff integrated so that I could use it the same way I've used WMP in the past, I'd more than welcome the complete switch over. But as it stands that just can't happen at this point. Maybe we'll have better luck next year (or in two years, gasp) with 3.0.
