Update for Monday, Feb. 25
I'm not quite ready to wrap up the idea generation phase yet, so although I said we'd debate ideas until Friday (the 22nd), I'm going to continue that conversation for a bit longer. :-) I'm so excited about this project, though - working with the community in this way might be the coolest thing I've gotten to do at Microsoft. Yay!

Here's a thought:
Submittable Zune Wallpaper Artwork that could be looked at, reviewed, and featured by the Zune community? Users could submit artwork that they've made. To be accepted, the image would have to be within a certain size, and at a specific resolution, as to fit on the Zune device.
You could also expand this to avatars and Zune card backgrounds.
An entire user-made gallery could be made and accessible from the Social.
Just a thought, though.

how about matching community members who are "like" other community members based on their recent plays?

That sounds great. As long as the option is able to turn that off, due to privacy, then why not?
It would give you a chance to make friends on the Social, based on your musical interests.

I like that idea and it would make the social more interactive, the ability to personalize your zunecard more with interests, hobbies, and fav's would be nice, or the ability to store xbox gamercards and zunecards onto the zune, so you see more than just a name, but someone who may or may not share similar interests in things as yourself, it'd be like a portable facebook on your zune

I'd also like to see microsoft actually integrate everything together sooner or later, maybe in the future some msngames can be downloaded onto the zune, some for free and some for microsoft points

When it comes to pictures, I'd like to be able to move and center pictures so they fit perfectly onto the display, since I use a lot of my desktop wallpapers and I'd like to have them on my zune and centered to the detail I like so I don't have to have multiple copies of the same picture

I agree, it'd be awesome to see what people with similar interests in music are listening to.

I think it'd also be cool to get concert details on your main page. Something to the effect "Hey, we see band X on your list is playing near you soon!" You could click the event and see who's attending and maybe meet up with people.

That's a really good idea, and in addition to Desert Island Discs, Music Trivia, etc., How about full on games? That'd be the best thing ever.

I like the idea of submittable artwork.   But I want to throw something else out there that is also a bit of the "social."  For this, I steal a page from MMORPGs, you know, those great time-sinks like EverQuest and World of Warcraft.

MMO's oftentime "reward" veteran players with in game exclusives for longevity, grinding, and even "chase cards."

So, here's the wind up and the pitch (sans steroids, mind you):

Anniversary rewards:  Exclusive Wallpaper designed by past and current Pop Artists (Mark Ecko for example)

Super Play rewards: Exclusive Wallpaper designed by a musician or group for "x" number of plays within a 28 day timespan.

Chase Rewards: 1 in 10 chance of an Exclusive musical download, wallpaper, or video for each song/video downloaded in a 28 day cycle.

Okay, okay, I know, not everyone is a subscriber to the marketplace.  Again, this is a page from the MMO realms, where I gladly pay $14.95 a month to hack and slash my way through pixelated spiders, bats, and dragons on the off chance that I may "win" a really shiny, purple, pixelated two-handed mace.  Geek doesn't even begin to cover it...

Which reminds me. Don't get me started on variant comic book covers and collectibility issues there...thank you very much Mr. McFarlane!
