Compilation Albums: How can I get each artist to appear individually, but the album to show up by itself?

The instructions I've read on this board and elsewhere suggest that, when you have a compilation album (say, a soundtrack), you tag each track this way:

1.  Artist -- The name of the artist that performs on the track.

2.  Album Artist -- Various Artists.

When I do this, I cannot find the names of the artists that perform on the individual tracks in the "Artist" menu on the player (compilation albums are all lumped together under "Various Artists.")

If I tag all the tracks so that both the Artist and the Album Artist are the same (the name of the artist that perfoms on the track), then the names of the artists that perform on the individual tracks DO appear in the "Artist" menu on the player.  But in the "Album" menu, rather than having one version of the compilation album with all the tracks on it, I get a different "album" for each artist that performs on the compilation.

Is there a way to get the best of both worlds (that is, each artist appears in the "Artist" menu, and each album appears just once in the "Album" menu, with all of its tracks together)?

I have kinda the same problem, but I already had the songs on my pc.

My guess is the Album Artist should be labelled with the individual artists names(where you want it to go)

This is assuming that Zune software would overwrite the artist if the file has a album artist tag... worth a shot

Yeah, that still leaves me with bunches of one-track "albums."  I think the software says to itself, "If I have two tracks, and the "Album" tags are the same, but the "Album Artist" tags are different, then I must have two albums."

The upshot of having these one-track "albums (in addition to taking longer to browse through), is that, unless I put them in a playlist, I can't just play the first track and expect the player to play the tracks consecutively (it stops at the end of the "album.")

GOT IT! (After another 1/2 hour searching the forums).

On the player, I just needed to go to Settings - Music - Artists and change it to "song and album"

Now, even if my "Album Artist" is Various Artists", as long as the artists are set up properly for the individual tracks, the artists for those tracks will show up under "artists" on the player.

Thanks to whoever posted that fix!
