re: Favorite Artist?

Medski Martin and Wood top my list in jazz - slightly experimental, a little fusion-y, but kinda mainstream... they had a tune on an episode of Grey's Anatomy, I think. The Lover is my favorite track, and a pretty popular one overall.

The CD End of the World Party might be something you can find at a library

For definite libarary shelf candidates, go with John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, etc.

re: Favorite Artist?

Do I have to choose just one?

Ella and Basie - The Buddy Rich big band - The Carnnegi Hall concert with Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan (Stan Getz is on that too, but does not get listed as he was contracted to another lable.) In the past two month I've burned over 5,000 songs on to the Zune, so if I can continue

Charle Loyd Forrest Flower.  Toshiko Akioki (I know I spelled that wrong) best two tunes, Children on the temple grounds and lonf and yellow road.

Thank you all for this Jazz section.  Saves my faith in the Zune community !!

re: Favorite Artist?
Miles Davis, Stanley Clarke, Mingus, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, some of Sting's jazz, John McLaughlin, Marcus Miller, Jazz Mandolin Project, Jaco Pastorius, Weather Report, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (kind of Jazz, kind of funk, kind of bluegrass, kind of amazing...), Victor Wooten, among others.

Things are not as bad as they seem. They are worse than that. They are also better than that.

re: Favorite Artist?
Since your new to jazz, i suggest starting out with:
Duke Ellington
John Coltrane
Miles Davis
Charlie Parker
Pat Metheny
Wes Montgomery

From there you can figure out what some of your jazz tastes are, and hopefully find some good artists
there's an excellent guide on beginning jazz here

re: Favorite Artist?

Personally even though I know I can't be called a true musician if I say this but I do enjoy some Kenny G.

Okay seriously though George Benson, Miles Davis, Charlie Park, Dave Koz, Stevie Wonder (he's jazzish), Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross . . . uh let's see Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Sade . . .

Yeah try those artists . . . I love Benson, he's a guitarist and singer . . . hope that helps
