I just got an 8gb Zune 2 days ago and upon close inspection I noticed a scratch on the inside of the device and some lint. I contacted the retailer about the issues and was told to bring it back in for exchange. OK this is not the bug I am wanting to discuss.
Now before returning the Zune I decided I would like to remove all my content off the device because it is my personal stuff, for example my pictures. Well I properly deleted everything in the user interface, the device presented sync complete, I detached and now I can not even power it on. It is officially non-responsive. Just thought I would share this little flaw I discovered. In case any of you decide to start completely a new you might want to leave something on it like a playlist or something.
Now I could have just had a rare circumstance but I see when I plug in the Zune I get a new device detected on USB but it never fully initiates so I can't do anything on the device via user interface. The screen on the device is now completely off and will not light up. Well off to the store I go, might just get my money back since this is a nasty thing to happen within 2 days of purchase.
Well I hope everyone else has had better results compared to mine.
I would love to hear any comments or suggestions.
edit: Well I did perform a hard reset and it is functional again but still not convinced the device is for me. But just to clarify to anyone else it is recoverable only by hard resetting the device. back arrow + up on d-pad.
