If you’ve been experiencing issues with the latest Zune setup, please try the following resolutions:
1. You receive an error message with ‘RemoveDriver’ and result 0x8004003 or 0x8004005; You receive an error message with error code 0xE0000302
a. Open Windows Explorer and go to the Zune installation directory (by default, this should be C:\Program Files\Zune)
i. Alternatively, you can use the start menu by choosing Start Run and typing “C:\Program Files\Zune” and pressing OK
b. Find a folder named Drivers in the Zune installation directory and double-click it to open the folder
c. Find a folder named Zune in the Drivers folder and double click it to open the folder
d. Find a file named zune.inf and right click on the file
e. In the context menu that appears, select Install
f. Retry the Zune installation
2. You receive an error message with an error in the coinstaller
a. Open Windows Explorer and go to the folder C:\Windows\system32\Drivers
i. Alternatively, you can use the start menu by choosing Start Run and typing “C:\Windows\system32\Drivers” and pressing OK
b. Locate a file named wdf01000.sys, right click on the file and choose Rename
i. If you are not able to see the file extension (.sys) after the file, you’ll need to enable file
ii. Open Folder Options by clicking Start and then clicking on Control Panel
iii. Double click ‘Appearance and Personalization’ if on Windows Vista or ‘Appearance and Themes’ if using Windows XP
iv. Click the View tab and then, under Advanced Settings, clear the checkbox for ‘Hide extensions for known file types
v. Click OK
c. Rename the file to wdf01000.sys.bak
d. You will be prompted about changing the file extension – choose OK
e. Retry the Zune installation
